It never ceases to amaze me how good those who don’t have English as their native tongue are at speaking and writing it .
It certainly something the average Brit and American lags behind at . I started French A level at school , but dropped it because I was getting ill . What I know now of it is very limited . I certainly couldn’t hold a conversation , or write a post in it .
I thought I had forgotten all my French, up until I went to Belgium. I was surprised by my ability to successfully make my way around and chat with locals.
Hahaha yes I learned french from a Canadian teacher, so I pronounce things VERY Canadian. I actually also pronounce many of my English words with a Canadian accent too. Comes from living on the border. All the Belgians thought I was Canadian and I didn’t correct them. Canada has a better global reputation than America.
When I was in elementary school I spoke french quite well enough to converse. I know a bit now but not well. My family speak low German (not sure why it is called German as it really isn’t like German) so I know some of that but my parents never speak it unless they are around people who would prefer they speak it.
I know a minor amount of Spanish having picked it up while living in Texas. I can say weird, random things and ask where the bathroom is, what time it is, and if I can order a cheeseburger. I am also mighty good with pig latin, if I do say so myself.
