Man getting horrible med withdrawals and scary dreams - propranolol

I thought propranolol was my saviour. It totally treated my anxiety on both doses I had. But about 10 hours after each dose I get horrific rebound anxiety. More than I have ever had

I can’t continue with this med

Ah geez. Well at least you found out sooner rather than later. :frowning:

Wow that sucks man. I take propranalol for both akathisia and blood pressure issues, and it doesn’t do much to me that I can tell. Sorry it’s not working out for you.

I used to absolutely love Wellbutrin back when my diagnosis was Bipolar and I had no voices, but since developing sz symptoms, Wellbutrin has a negative impact on the voices and causes them to get threatening and mean. It’s a shame too cuz that medicine is great at cutting my nicotine cravings down to like half.

Thanks for the heads up on Propanolol. I take it, but I don’t know what it does for me.

Wow, that’s truly a bummer @Jimbob.

Hope you find something that’ll help with the anxiety soon :+1:.

That’s too bad.

I use propranolol a few times a week. Usually 10 or 20mg.

I found slight rebound anxiety after about 3 hours for myself. But besides that it’s fine for me.

I mainly just get physical anxiety so it helps

I can not ever understand why Doctors prescribe Propranolol for anxiety or panic disorders instead of Atenolol.
Atenolol 25mg in the morning lasts the whole day, it doesn’t upset a person’s breathing because it is a selective beta blocker, and it is water soluble so it doesn’t easily cross the blood brain barrier and make people feel different.

I never noticed any breathing issue with it. It’s pretty mellow honestly

In the past thirty years, I have never been as anxious as I have been the last year on Propanolol. I know my med provider is really happy with herself for prescribing me Propanolol, however.

I’m sorry it is doing this to you. That sucks hard.

Y’all are admittedly making me nervous, though. I was recently prescribed it for a weird blood pressure increase (I was always low before). It’s helped my BP, but now I’m worried it’ll mess with my anxiety. I’m anxious about being anxious!

I’m glad you’re going to get off it. Obviously it’s not helping you. Good luck finding the right med.

Hope you find something that works better for you @Jimbob.

I E-mailed my med provider. She said to take my Propranolol as a PRN and not as a give.
