Mail-order prescription glasses

Has anyone bought eyeglasses through a website and had them mailed to you? What was your experience with this?

Yes I use Goggles4u its the cheapest I found.
Great solid metal prescription glasses for my father. They have Bogo 2 for 1 deals/coupons.

I used to buy glasses for me too but I did laser surgery in 2016 and never needed glasses since then. I still buy prescription glasses for my father and mother from Goggles4u.

its not something I personally would have done. Alot of glasses just look bad on me. So I need to try on several in person before I find some i like.

Well I don’t have a car anymore and take Uber. It saves me a lot of money to mail-order.

Several people in my family use zenni optical. They have all had good success and my niece didn’t like one pair and sent them back and got all her money back.

There’s an eyeglass place near me that has a deal of 2 pairs for 79.99 and there’s no charge for the exam

I use Zenni optical for all my glasses. They cost as low as $7 a pair. I think they are very high quality, but there are a few tricks to learn. First, you should only order glasses within your PD, second, you should only order a shape you already know works for you, and third, you should refuse any upsells. They will say, no matter what your prescription is, that they recommend getting the more expensive lenses for your prescription. You can refuse, and stick with the free lenses, but the option is sort of hidden. I have a very strong prescription, and I only use the free ones. They have survived many years.

I have used Warby Parker twice. My eyes are super funky so I need prisms which are REALLY expensive so I had a fantastic experience with Warby Parker. The prisms were $50 extra I believe (so like 150 all together for the glasses) compared to $1000 at every eye doctor I went to. My sister has a stronger prescription than me and she likes Zenni a lot though I haven’t tried it yet.

Also zenni did a great job for my mom with progressive lenses. They cost her around $50 but at an optometrist office they are for sure $400.

That includes the lenses? Or its only the frame?

I saved a crap ton of money on carbon fiber frames.

It includes lenses. Shipping is $5 regardless of how many you order. Rx sunglasses are another $5 extra.

I second Zenni, we’ve used them since 2008. My middle son was 3 and we found cool.wrap around so he couldn’t catch them and they didn’t fall off. He loved them until he outgrew the sizes they came in. I think they were 13 a pair, we ordered 5vpairs a year, to keep at home, school, in my purse, etc. He’s 15 now and no longer requires glasses at all, he went from almost requiring surgery for crossing eyes to no glasses at all last year.

But the 3 kids and I go Friday for an eyeglass appt. Our additional vision insurance only has 1 provider in our area, so the exam is 15 each, and whole glasses with lenses are 25 bucks. One pair, but I’ll get the printouts to order online if the need arises. Luckily since they’re all teens we haven’t had broken glasses in years.

I’m getting rid of my bifocals, what a freaking waste they were. I just take them off most of the time. I only wear for driving or watching TV.

What here in ontario both my parents bought glasses from the eye doctor at like 800$ each one pair. I cant afford that and the last pair I got through odsp insurance didn’t cover the cheapest frames I could find with the cheapest lenses they had for my script and they weren’t even bifocals. Total was like 280 and all the insurance covered was 250$ paid the 30$ out of pocket. Guess they figure you could just wear the frames without lenses. So… I’ve been wearing contacts instead but the doc says they’re frying my eyes. My prescription is so strong I’d need to have huge lenses so I could drive. And still that blind spots would be huge.
