Low Vitamin D

My nurse practitioner called this morning and said not to worry about my blood work. A few things were just slightly off. My vitamin D however is very low, and she prescribed a supplement.

I’m lactose intolerant and don’t use dairy products except for lactose free ones. Any suggestions on how to get more vitamin D in your diet?

I take a vitamin d supplement everyday.
2000 IU of vitamin d3 everyday.
1000IU AM 1000IU PM.
I used to have a deficiency but no longer have one, I still continue taking vitamin d because it’s healthy to supplement with it.

Vitamin d is great for depression as an example

Getting enough sunshine in your life helps with vitamin d intake.

Thanks Wave. Everyone should read Pandy’s article. There are medical/psychological conditions low Vitamin D can contribute to or cause.

Fish oil has a decent amount, but not many foods have vitamin D, we mainly get it through the sun, so supplementing might be the best option.

Thanks Mr_Hope. I prefer to get my nutrients through diet, so I don’t overdo them. I’m going to use the vitamin D supplement though.

Yeah, I also supplement with vit D., but I don’t feel like taking it every day. I take it maybe twice a week. But my capsules are 5000IU, which is a pretty high dose.

My nurse practitioner gave me a prescription for a once-a-week pill. I’ll see her again in three months and see what she says.

Has anyone else’s sleep problems been corrected after taking a vitamin D supplement? I just googled it and saw a vitamin D deficiency can cause sleep disturbances. My vitamin D was extremely low. I’m hoping the supplement will help my sleep disturbances.
