Losing weight is impossible on medication

It just is. I am feeling so hopeless about it. I have barely made any progress and having so much as one cheat meal loses that very slight amount of progress. I feel I’m going to be at the weight I’m at now forever.

Do u exercise along with ur diet? Its very hard with just dieting alone.

Yes daily vigorous exercise as well as controlled diet counting calories.

I’ve been losing weight recently eating what I want but taking supplements

I gained 30 or so pounds after being put on abilify, it was very hard to lose any weight. I started counting calories on my phone using an app and lost like, half or so of the 30 I gained so far. It’s very frustrating

i could not lose weight at all on Abilify. I used to eat and drink like 1200 at maximum.

I lost 8 pounds in like 20 days on vacation after switching medication. I am eating the same.
Wellbutrin suppresses appetite too.

You can take this whole weight loss slowly bc it will take time. You only started like 2 weeks ago? Give the meds a chance if you can and wait through it. Sorry it ismy advice but please check with your doc but that is what I did.

Maybe you can change the quality of your calorie intake instead of having cheat meals.

I lost a ■■■■ ton of weight on Geodon but weight loss isn’t linear I stalled for like 2 weeks while eating 1200 which is really low for the weight I was at and my height, just make sure u use a food scale for everything and the weight will come off, the most common reason for weight loss being harder on meds is because they can possibly affect your blood sugar, the way around that is to cut out carbs and than the weight will be lost easier you will also have reduced appetite the less carbs you eat

also exercising can make you retain water and you might be gaining muscle, the goal is fat loss not weight loss

Here’s my weight loss story on abilify in a nutshell

  • Saw a dietician for a year
  • Kept lowering my daily calories
  • Lost 44lb
  • Hit a brick wall and couldn’t eat below 2200 calories
  • Stopped seeing dietician
  • Stopped calorie counting
  • Gained back 14lb

So I came to the conclusion that calorie counting works, even on meds, but you have to watch your calories forever. This unfortunately takes more willpower than I have.

I’m now on the Atkins diet. I expect to lose 20lb on it as I was on it before and am familiar with it. Then I think I’m going to call it quits on weight loss and try my best to just maintain that weight.

But don’t blame the meds, especially meds you’ve only been on for a month or so!

Losing weight isn’t easy. But you’ve started and if you’re persistent you’ll start to lose weight.

I lost 8 pounds recently just by using the Samsung Health Android App. It counts your steps and you can enter everything you eat. So you always know how much calories you ate and burned. It made me realize which meals are good or bad for the kcalories and that I could eat a lot less.

In theory, someone who has my size and weight could lose weight by eating less than about 1600 kcalories a day even without doing any exercise. I managed to eat 1400 kcalories a day in June. This is really not much!

But if you lower your kcalories, you have to be sure you get enough nutrients and vitamins! So eat a lot of vegetables and fruits! This is really important to know which food is good. I have a good knowledge about that. An example of a great meal would be salmon, rice and vegetables. But doing exercise is important also.

Also avoid fast-food at all cost. One fast-food meal is about 900 kcalories while a meal like the one I mentioned above is only about 400 kcalories.

I use to keep track now I just try to eat less and watch what I eat. But sometimes I fail so I

try to record in a journal what I eat so I don’t forget what I have eaten during the day. If I see

that i am writing things down more then a meal size portion I cut back.

I’ve lost a lot of weight in the past.
Currently I’m having a real hard time losing even a little weight.
My appetite is enormous!
Don’t want to blame the meds but I know it’s the Depakote.

my medical doc told me “I can be sane or I can be skinny” I kid you not. ■■■■■■■ ■■■■■■■

Yes I was doing 1200 too and I think that’s what broke me bc it just was not enough food…my stomach was growling and sad all of the time…

And eating healthy food is not satisfying to me…it’s so bad I have like an addiction to fast food and food that’s salty and fat like it makes me happy…and it is the only food that’s really FILLING to me…other foods I get hungry again so quickly after eating…

Waaaah :sob:

i AM SO SORRY! Wish I can cook for you!
My bf is like that. he simply likes fast food but it is not a good idea you know?!

It is only the first 20 days which are difficult like quitting smoking.

Your goal and visual achievement should be much greater than your current state and temporary fulfillment.

You can have half a chicken breast + half an avocado + a rye toasted bread + light mayo for lunch! foe example.

he needs my foot up his ass

I think that is so unfair. Physical health is just as important as mental health. What good is it to be stable mind wise when you’re just going to die young of diabetes/heart disease/a million other complications that come with obesity anyways?? Come on.

What’s your current BMI, Anna? If you don’t find my question too intrusive
If your BMI is 28 or less, I’d say you have nothing to worry about.
My BMI is 30 and I would love to lose 20-25lbs (10kg) but I also like to eat
My weight has been stable for a year now. I don’t exercise much but my blood work came out ok.
So I don’t fret too much…

I’m only 10 lbs overweight so I’m nowhere near obese. But for some people it does get that bad and doctors should be aware of that and try to do what they can to prevent it.
