Latuda dosages

Hi you guys, i want to ask anyone who is on latuda if they have to take the medicine twice a day. The reason i ask is because the half life of latuda is only 18 hours, so does the affect lessens by the end of the day?

How they test it in the trials is how you take it. Theoretical you could get away with taking a lower dosage and taking it twice a day. It’s still sedating and personal I don’t find it flows well to take antipsychotics in the morning especially cognition wise. Unless it is aripiprazole/brex. Basically by proxy your question could be phrased as tablets vs long acting injectables, is there improved efficacy? I don’t think it makes much of a difference. If it fits your lifestyle better and you feel there is some advantage then you can. Personally I wouldn’t bother. Also it’s really just a hassle taking pills multiple times per day, especially when you have to it year on year with no end in sight. 18 hours is quite a long half life. All the antipsychotics have long half lives for a reason.

Ok great point. I dont want to be sedated in the morning so ill tell my pdoc that its best i take it at night.

Yeah look it really depends on what your positive symptoms are like also. If you get little positive symptoms there is no advantage. If you get bad symptoms but only sometimes then you can get a keyring canisters and take an extra half or quater of a tablet when you need it.

If positive symptoms are constant then maybe there is an advantage. However are positive symptoms more distracting then the medication is sedating? In which case you would have to try it and see what works best for you. Tbh if you are getting constant positive symptoms probably best to increase your dosage and just take it at night imo.

There is decent bit of flexibility with what you can and can’t do around dosage strategies, and unique to your own personal crimstances there is no right or wrong answer

If you go with the canister idea, make sure to carry your prescription with you. :crocodile::crocodile::crocodile:

I took Latuda twice a day for over a year.

I developed akathisia on 60mg. So I split my dose in half.

30mg with breakfast. 30mg with dinner.

It got rid of my akathisia for a year or so. But then my akathisia came back on 30mg.

Im now back to 60mg once a day, but I take 75mg of Trazodone along with it and that solves the akathisia problem.

As far as effectiveness goes. I’ve been symptom free either way.

According to this site the halflife of latuda is 20-40 hours, so 30 hours average.

Don’t you have to take latuda with a certain amount of calories? If that’s the case, make sure you eat the right amount!

A side effect of psych meds.

It’s extreme agitation. You have this overwhelming urge to move but when you move you get next to no relief. It’s not uncontrolled movements. If you focus you can sit still but whether you move or not it’s extremely uncomfortable feeling. When it gets intense it’s torture.

I would lay in my bed moving my body suffering, or when it got intense I would run up and down the stairs and around the house. Either way it didn’t provide much relieve. I went 4 days and couldn’t take it anymore.

Fortunately for me 75mg Trazodone completely eliminates it.
