I cannot roll my r’s. That precludes a lot of pronunciation in a lot of languages for me.

Not obviously, your English is excellent!

Chinese is spoken in many dialects but, there is only one written format-- good enough to read/write all over The Greater China and in Singapore.

I know finnish, swedish and english. Born a in Finland, grew up in Sweden, learned English when I was 9 years old. That was before time of internet. I had it easy to learn new languages. kids learn fast.

I never managed to learn any European languages, though it would really be romantic to speak some of it.

Mastering all three (and learning the fourth) languages is not easy. All of my three languages are not as good as the native speaker. What a shame. I am not as Chinese as I should be; I am not as Malay as the Bumiputera, and I haven’t taken any class in English to fix my pronunciation. I knew some basic Japanese vocabulary (no more than 100 words) and can read/write Hiragana and basic Katagana. I would love to learn Korean-- kamsa hamida is the only Korean that I know of (not even sure of its spelling).

Just a tip of the day: Tsunami in Japanese is pronounced as Tsu-na-mi, not soo-na-mee. Likewise go to the username Te-tsu (a user on this forum). Sorry for the boring language lesson!

Finnish is easy to read. Just say every letter in the word. But the rules on how to end the words are horrible to learn if you have not grown up with them. One word ending in different ways means different things.

Koira - dog
Koiramme - our dog
Koiranne - your dog
Koirassasi - in your dog
Koirattakaan - without the dog

And it goes on forever.

English is my native language. I also learnt some French at uni (and spent a year abroad in a French speaking country) but that was a couple years ago and i’ve probably lost my french skills from lack of use

Yea, i was looking at the 101 classes here start simple an see if i take to the language first and see how it goes
