Just took my very last Risperdone

The transfer to Asenapine is complete.

I don’t want to be petty and blame Risperdone for all my problems, nor do I want to be selfish and say it should be illegal. It had helped a lot of people.

But I had a lot of negatives and a lot of side effects.
I purely took it because it was the only affordable option.

I DO wish it was illegal to jack up the prices of medicines so much that only the crappiest options are affordable for people of low incomes.

The side effects I had are well known. Which means lots of people have had them.
Yet, whoever decides medicine prices decided this was all people like me deserved.
I am disgusted by the way medicines are treated by shareholders and big medicine companies.

Anyways.

Goodbye to:

  • heart palpitations
  • rash on thigh and butt that gets scratched until it bleeds twice a day
  • inexplicable fatigue
  • confusion
  • brain fog
  • raised prolactin
  • overpowering appetite
  • low mood
  • low social tolerance
  • worsened adhd symptoms
  • nonexistant “downstairs” functions

And hellooooo freedom!

I was glad when i changed my med from risperidone and i had a lot of side effects that went away

flat effect was the worst side effect ever, no feelings or emotions, it was a total chemical kosh for me :frowning:

how are you feeling now after the change?

Lots of negatives here on 5mg risperidone but no other side effects and no positives so I am kinda happy with it. I tried Abilify, Latuda, Quetiapine, Zyprexa and Risperidone. My dr told me next is Clozapine, I said no thanks lol

Hi I have also thought about trying asenapine. My current psychiatrist said that saphris let’s people keep their creativity. Does it make you drowsy at all after you take it at night? I had some of those side effects on risperidone also but it was the most effective med for positives.

Im on 8mg risperidone. I have

-low sex drive

  • dont work on the farm or work
    -runners dystonia
    -lack of emotion
  • social withdrawl
-disturbed sleep i wake up every hour
    -raised prolactin
    -raised appetite

On the plus side i have no thought insertion, broadcasting, voices,

im on risperdone’s fraternal twin paliperidone and my main side effects right now are palpitations and sexual dysfunction

I’m happy for you! I hated being on risperidone.

Risperidone is a tried and true medication.
It’s usually very effective for positive symptoms like delusions and hallucinations.

I understand that risperidone can worsen negative symptoms.

Hopefully Asenapine will work for you.
This medication is very much a hit or miss drug.

I don’t want to play up what Risperidone did to me 25 years ago. I just want to say that it didn’t work and caused lots of side effects. I was on 16 mg risperdone by mouth. It’s said by lots of users of Saphris that It’s a very gentle mood lifting antipsychotics that does not destroy your creativity or ability to feel and very soon this meds will go generic. It also doesn’t raise prolactin to the same degree as risperidone.

Hi!
Asenapine makes me a little drowsy, so I take it at bedtime.
But the next day, I’m fine

It’s great for my positives, and it stabilizes my moods as well.

I’m feeling nuch better. My mood is more stable, the pit feeling in my stomach is gone, I’m a lot less sluggish, etc.
Just overall more functional

If I was young and should choose a new antipsychotics.
My meds of choice would be Asenapine (Saphris US name, Sycrest EURO name)

How can you forget akathisia? @Pikasaur

I didn’t really get akathisia.
But I have adhd and risperdone did make me bounce my legs more and feel a stronger need to move around

Do you believe your thought broadcast was a delusion?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on the evidence at the time. Yours is most likely a delusion. Have people repeated your thoughts?

No mines about as real as it gets. My thoughts are repeated to me by my neighbors every day. The self deprecating ones especially.

Well if its your neighbours, theres nothing mallicious about it, its your voices making you think what your neighbours are saying actually. The other way around
