My psychiatrist is seriously considering switching my Antipsychotic Risperdal over to a new med for me.
She suggested 2 Antipsychotics that she feels might make a good match - Saphris, which she really likes and Fanapt.
I am leaning towards Saphris just because it’s FDA approved for both Schizophrenia and Bipolar.
Any one have luck with Saphris? or even Fanapt.
What should I be expecting and how were the side effects for you - is it effective against the positive symptoms and mood?
I am on Saphris 5mg now, and have been for several months. I take it along with Latuda at bedtime. I’m out like a light. The first night was dreadful, with all the side effects you could imagine. After that, an occasional side effect might pop up, but mostly, after the first month, no side effects. This is a seamless drug, working behind the scenes. I like it, which is difficult to say about any AP. Please remember-any AP works differently for any person.
Hey Wave how are you? I really liked Saphris but I gained a lot of weight on it. It was very effective against the positive symptoms and also my lack of motivation. It made me eat non-stop though. It was also very good for sleep without being a heavy sedative like Seroquel. Good luck with switching meds!!
Saphris never did anything for me except turn me into a zombie, it did it in 30 seconds flat since it’s absorbed through the skin underneath the tongue, plus the taste was horrible, I almost threw up the first time I took it. I’ve never tried Fanapt. Risperdal didn’t do anything either except make me deathly ill, it’s the worst offender for raising prolactin.
Saphris did jack-squat for me. The taste was bad, but the worst part was after waiting the 30 minutes to eat or drink as directed, food tasted horrible. I took 20mg at the height of it, and it was a complete placebo.
i tried saphris, cannot say anything reallly good about it though. turned me into an agitated zombie, but i slept really well, whether it was time to goto sleep or not.
