Just got SSDI approved

Been crying happy and sad tears. Happy I can focus on my mental health, been doing pretty bad. Happy this is one less thing to worry about. Sad I’m unable to work and my career is over. But I should feel grateful. And thanks for the support while I was applying and had questions on the forums. <3

Good news. I live a good, fullfilled life on disability. The stress of fulltime work really is too much for some.

@rogueone Yeah, so much to process. Glad to hear its possible to live a full life on disability. Have worked so hard to stay working all these years. But seeing a lot of peeps on here living well this is hopeful.

Thanks, how long did it take you to get approved? I’m starting to think they forgot about me. My hearing was scheduled April 20 2020, postponed still

@MoonGarden I applied December 2020 and just got approved today. You can go to SSA.gov create an account to see a progress bar of the review of your application. I didn’t have a hearing. I just check ssa.gov daily and and saw that they completed review and approved my application at 34% out of 100 so they approved it early. Also can download digital copy of benefit approval letter.

Congratulations! It’s ok to need disability. That’s what it’s there for. Plus, you paid your share into SSDI while you were working. No shame in that

Dang, you’re lucky… despite my 15 inpatient stays in 7 years I applied in 2018… been hospitalized at least 6 times since. Guess my age and degree makes them think I’m ok.

That is great news. Gives you lots of time and opens up ideas that can help with your mental health without being under pressure

i understand about the sad thoughts too… it took a while for me to accept it too.

@Moon, if you need SSDI, you should use a lawyer who specializes in disability. By law, they can only charge you if you win and the money they get is a percentage of your payback from time you weren’t working and while disabled

I’ve been dreaming at work of saving up money and buying a house in a small town somewhere and going back on disability.
