I got summoned for jury duty.
In the past my dr wrote them something and I got excused.
Now I guess I have to fill out an online form and they may or may not excuse me.
I don’t even drive that far downtown.
And my anxiety and paranoia and voices are already the worst they’ve been all week. I’m stressed and can’t sleep which makes everything worse.
And I won’t find out if I’m excused or not for 4 weeks.
Anyone else been through this?
I’ve been asked 4 or 5 times and I always got out of it by getting a note from my doctor telling them I have schizophrenia.
Did you fill out the online form? I am confused. I never had to do this in the past, just had my dr contact. What are they trying to do to me?
I forget whether it was a form, I remember I had to upload the form or the note.

That really helps me. That makes a lot of sense that you can upload a note like that.
I don’t know the next time I see my dr I don’t get out too much on my own. Shoot. So hopefully my dr can mail me or email me a note.
I never wanted to do jury duty. Getting out of jury duty should go on the occasional “What’s good about having schizophrenia?” thread as the only good thing about having schizophrenia. I don’t want to sit in a courtroom with a bunch of people then be in a room with 12 strangers deciding someone’s fate.
Jury duty for me, twice I got a letter from work to be excused, works here in Australia…I am not sure about there!

I think the last time I was excused I had to upload a document my pdoc had made on the website. I was never contacted after that to either say I wasnt serving or serving, I dont believe.
Years ago I got out of jury duty for religious beliefs and was never contacted again. Schizophrenia would certainly get you permanently excused.
I tried to get permanently excused but they contacted me to serve three more times.
A family member did jury duty and she ended up on a high profile murder case
Jury duty is pretty rare in Belgium. Almost all court cases are decided by judges. It’s only for the highest crimes like murder that there is a Jury.
People with psychotic disorders like schizophrenia are exempt from serving as jurors

I am going to fill out the online form now. I’ll try to update you all with how this all unfolds!
I get selected every few years. First I tell them I have schizophrenia and the conditions they keep a jury in would cause me to relapse. I also tell them I watch all the news religiously and that I can tell a guilty person just by looking at them.
Haven’t had to serve yet.
