I had a small lump on the side of my head. My GP referred me to a dermatologist who said it was harmless and that it didn’t matter if I kept it or had it removed. I opted for having it removed and she did minor surgery in her office and dug it out. Then she said she sent the lump to be tested at Stanford University Hospital. Today I went in and she said that they said there’s a chance it is cancer so she’s referring me to Stanford so they can look at me and run further tests in person. Weird. Now I’m starting to worry.
The sooner you know, the sooner you can do something about it. Worrying wastes mental energy. Can you find something more constructive to do while waiting?
I’m not sitting around worrying. I took the news calmly but this happened yesterday and I happen to get up this morning at 4;30 and I was thinking about it and it just hit me how serious this is. But business will go on as usual.
Okay. I once had bumps on my left testis that turned out to be nothing. I know they’re still there, too. Still alive. Hope for the best.
Don’t panic. Wait for the results.
Stay calm and stop worrying, @77nick77 . If you still worry, come here and vent or just write posts to kill the time.
I think you will be OK.
Use your imagination in a way that’s friendly to you, if you use it at all. Imagining can be your enemy. You’ll be fine, whatever.
It’s likely either a carcinoma (which is cancerous) or a melanoma (which is like a non cancerous tumor, but it could develop into something cancerous.)
Both of my parents have had melanomas removed. They really aren’t a big deal, but my mother was freaked out by it.
I think it just becomes something you recognize and have frequent self-checks to stay on top of.
@77nick77 The beatles are the band of the day for me… played in your honor
I had a cancer scare too very recently as I had high proteins in my blood so the doc was thinking multiple myeloma but thankfully it wasn’t the type of protein he thought so know the feeling.
You must be thinking of something other than melanoma. Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer.
Try not to worry too much @77nick77. The Stanford Hospital is excellent so you’re in good hands.
Yes, melanoma is a dangerous form of skin cancer.
Ah, she might be right!

I had that squamous cell carcinoma removed the same time you got the growth on your head removed and luckily it hasn’t come back. These things are common and easy to treat from what they told me. I’m just making sure to check myself all over very frequently so something doesn’t get missed and if I find another one, well I’ll just get it removed too. Hopefully yours is just squamous cell carcinoma and not melanoma. I’ll keep you in my thoughts. (((hugs)))
I’m sorry @77nick77.
Everything could be fine.
Try not to worry so much.
Sorry nick, my prayers and thoughts are with you
I hope it will be okay @77nick77. Stay strong.
You’ll probably be ok I had the same thing happen. I went to the dermatologist because I had a dark spot on my lip. It’s where I put my cigarette. The dermatologist looked at it and said “that might be cancer”. They cut a chunk out of my lip and sent it for testing. I was totally freaked out thinking the worst. Tests came back negative. I know how you feel. Just hope for the best. People get all kinds of benign cysts and stuff.
Basal cell aren’t too bad my friend…I hope it’s one of those!
They are doing mad things with cancer research these days. My mother has melonoma and she’s been on immuneotherapy and it’s mad what it does. Given her years on her life and she had a stage 3 or 4 or such.
Fingers crossed it’s a non event. We all advance in years and things prop up! In the middle ages you were an old man! We have advanced so much since then!
