I’ve had a few lumps on my head and there was a chance it was cancer. The dermatologist dug them out and sent them for a biopsy and I was referred to Stanford University cancer center. The results of the first ones showed that most likely they weren’t cancer. I had my follow up today at Stanford and the doctors took a piece of a bump and they’re going to test it but she told me even if the new ones are cancer they are not life-threatening. I’m sick of this crap. I’m sick of seeing doctors every week but the alternative could be serious so I go to my appointments. The doctors are usually nice but I want to go at least a month with no doctors appointment. But the trend seems that I get new ailments all the time and they require tests and blood tests and follow-up appointments. Next month is the colonoscopy. Once that’s out of the way, maybe I can go the whole summer without visiting a doctor. I can dream, can’t I?
Good luck @77nick77
Thank you…
i’m glad its not life threatening and may not be cancerous nick,
my pal is in hospital just now ad i am worried about him bc they are saying it might be ms he’s a good guy and he doesnt deserve this so i am praying for him, hoping its not serious and will go away
If you are talking about multiple sclerosis there is the talk show host Montel Williams who has had it for years and still functions and still does all kinds of stuff. So not only is it survivable but a person with it can still have a life. I know very little about it but there’s an example in Williams.
yeah, its different for each person, he has gone numb down one side and has intense pain in his hand and his co-ordination is off, another friend of mine has balance issues and mobility issues among other things and i know a guy that is in a wheel chair bc of it it sucks
@77nick77 I can totally empathize with you about seeing the doctors too much…I am due my colonoscopy this August and I am thinking about going another five years without one because I am so poor right now…I had one five years ago and they said come in in another five years…what do you think? can I skip it? should I?
With all due respect, ask a doctor. There’s too many variables to ponder before making a decision like that. My first instinct is to say that when it comes to your health, you shouldn’t skimp on getting these tests. Borrow the money if you have to.
At our age (I think you’re actually younger than me) we can’t take our health for granted. I mean you don’t need a colonoscopy as a kid, teenager, or thirty-five year old. But when you reach mid-forties the body starts to wear down down and show it’s age. So the doctors using their experience with people our age order these tests for a reason.
But maybe a doctor would say that 5 years is only a general guideline and that people can get by on getting the procedure every 6 or 7 years. You can kind of compare it to an oil change in your car. The mantra for oil changes in cars is usually every three thousand miles but some mechanics say that’s bull and that you can get by with an oil change every 7500 miles. Ultimately it is your choice and you might want to gamble and not get it done for another few years. But the thing about gambling is that you can lose just a easy as you can win. Take care.
Jeez, that’s awful. So sorry @77nick77
I feel the same way and actually my friends make fun of me for my non-stop doctor visits.
Now my right eye has astigmatism, my left hand is numb, my lower back hurts all the time. I am anaemic, I need to do a blood test soon. It is never ending!
Never-ending is right. Good luck to you.
Hopefully everything turns out fine @77nick77!
I just figure all my pains are growing pains - yeah, growing older.
He became very passionate about his health after that. He eats healthy and exercises.
But why go another 5 years without one @jukebox ? Why not save your money and get another one (if the doctor OK’s it) in 6 months, or a year or three years etc? You don’t have to go a whole 5 years more without one. That would be 10 years total without one.
hey mate. Hang in there. You get older and it’s more doctors and scripts and more meds but that is the price to pay for living large and getting older!
Those cancers can be easily dealt with so it’s worth doing! We have a lot of melanoma out here because it’s frigging hot and most of us are white europeans out of our depth. It’s scary the people who pass away with small skin blemish’s. It’s a very real concern if your in the sun!
Look out for yourself my friend! It would be a hell of a lot more boring around here without you!
Best wishes @77nick77 I had an appt with an oncologist some weeks back. It was scary but he reassured me I probably don’t have cancer. But geez it was eerie just sitting there waiting for him to come in.
Thanks rougeone. Wear your hat and sunscreen not necessarily in that order.
@jukebox. You should ask your doctor when you should get your next colonoscopy. The recommended time interval between colonoscopies depends on various factors.

@77nick77. It’s good that you’re being proactive about your health and going to the specialists at Stanford for follow up. I hope your biopsy results come back as unremarkable.
