I have decided that in combating depression it’s important to set goals. It’s not good to merely stagnate. For me I need something to look forward to, something to work towards. It gives me hope. Hope is key to keeping out of depression, at least in the deep of it. The more hope you have the better off you are. But I’ve also found that too many plans and too high of a goal can be equally depressing because when you can’t achieve your goals or make any headway you feel down about yourself. So there’s a balance there. Somewhere there’s a balance and I’m going to find it.
So I think the takeaways are to set reasonable, attainable goals and don’t get down on yourself if you can’t reach your goal or if it takes longer. And remember your no worse off for trying.
You speak the truth. When I actually get out of my head to do stuff I usually feel so much better. It’s just that it’s often a matter of working up the motivation to do stuff, unfortunately, lol; I get the feeling therapy will help with that, though.
I went back to it after an extended break from it back in November and my next appointment is on the 8th of January. Fingers crossed! Hope it helps you, too.
My therapist is trying to help me overcome my fear of opening up to new people (especially her lol), and get re-evaluated by a psychologist so I can see where I stand now psychologically, then I think we’re going to try CBT.
