I’ve been having full blown panic attacks all day. I don’t have a prn, and my dr doesn’t prescribe benzos. Maybe I can get her to give me buspar. I’m so panicked. I keep thinking I’m going to get a brain infection and die. I’m so scared. I keep trying to distract myself but it’s not working

The only way I find that helps me with these is to make my bedroom dark and put the tv on with something familiar like a series low volume and I lay down to try and calm down

It works some of the time, but there should be a way you can manage it

I have been doing it for years now.

It is probably more like meditation in some weird way that I’d likely not admit to or call it by that name, but it seems to work

Some days I might do it 3/4 times

When they used to happen at work I struggled to manage

If your doctor won’t prescribe benzos for panic attacks I’d find a new doctor. Panic attacks are horrible it happens to me all the time.

I was given benzos, have been taking them for about 4 years now

Would say the first 6 months they helped, and then I was only taking them because my body was dependent on them

It has taken a year to get down from 30mg of Diazepam to 5mg

I do not recommend it

Pregabalin has helped anxiety for me way more, and it has not lost effectiveness in the last two years - with only 1 or 2 dose increases

I don’t take it daily if you do that it just stops working like you were saying. I only take it when I have a panic attack so I’ll never become dependent.

That’s the best way

Here in England they’re short on acute beds, and seem to just throw meds at a situation to avoid problems

They do the same here. I’ve been in the hospital twice and they just up everyone’s doses of meds.

Good job!!! I don’t want to take narcotics because they lead to dependency. No dr at county mental health prescribes them because they’re not allowed

Have you asked about Pregabalin?

Here it’s not regarded in the same way Benzos are and is a good alternative

I do the same thing. I have a synuse infection. It is swollen, and I get afraid of it infecting my brain.

Hey @Joker . I’ve heard horror stories about pregabalin and weight gain. I won’t be asking for it. Did you gain weight while on it?

No weight gain for me on it. I take 225mg morning and 225mg at night

I’m sorry your doctor won’t give you anything for the panic. I have diazepam as a PRN, but I also take Pristiq, which works really well for crippling anxiety. Panic/anxiety is horrible!! It’s actually physically painful.
