Panic attacks

Who on here has them? How do you deal with them, not involving benzos?

Sometimes I feel like im suffering. I just want my suffering to end. Is there hope?

Paxil works well for me, although doctors tend to prescribe it less often these days because it has a nasty discontinuation syndrome.

Practicing controlled breathing helps me too.

Mirtazapine was a good drug for anxiety and stress

Buspar is a good option. Or hold an ice cube. That’s all I got, I depend on Klonopin. Good luck to you. :spouting_whale::spouting_whale::spouting_whale:

I do take my benzo (Ativan) sometimes. I just dont want to get physically dependent on it like I have in the past.

I stopped getting panic attacks after last summer, but my go to for dealing with them was concentrating on my breathing and using the 5-4-3-2-1 technique (pick out 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste).

This is a trick I learned in DBT skills group. It’s pretty effective. You kinda have to be at home though.

Try vitamin b1 supplements but in small doses. B1 supplements are powerful so I break 1 tablet into pieces and aim for the recommended daily allowance which is 0.1mg.

The b1 supplement I have is 100mg (9,000 times the recommended daily allowance, it says it on the packet), but I break it into tiny pieces.

Coffee, tea , sugar, stress, medications and alcohol deplete thiamine (vitamin b1).

It gives you energy

I understand all too well @TheCanuk

My anxiety is awful too. I take pristiq and then sometimes alprazolam (Xanax) only when it gets unbearable.

I focus on the things I learn in therapy too. Like deep breathing technique.

It helps a little.

I hope you can get relief. Anxiety is a ■■■■■.

This is what CHATgpt told me to do. I took cold water showers, but didn’t find it to be effective to end the panic attacks, unfortunately.

I had panic attacks until I took chromium. Chromax is good. It has about 1000mg. It’s often a blood sugar problem.

I have no defense against panic attacks, I have tried many things and many medications.

They are like commanding, controlling intrusions, making me question my sexuality. I can’t explain it, but the fear that revolves around these intrusions cannot be understated.

I haven’t had a panic attack since starting this 2 years ago.

Yes, it’s very effective for me without any side effects.

My current GP said she’s not a fan of Buspar. I don’t think I ever asked why. Maybe I should bring it up to her again and maybe convince her to let me try it.

That’s strange it’s a pretty safe drug without addiction and bad side effects.

I would ask her. It has been nothing but good for me. No side effects that I know of. :t_rex::t_rex::t_rex:

Don’t you take a benzo every day though? In a perfect scenario, I would take Buspar and not feel the need to take my Ativan anymore.
