Is there any cure for oversleep?

HI, I am diagnosed with schizophrenia, and I am on 1 mg of Risperidone per day, Zolen 400 mg per day and Vincor 5 mg per day. I also used to take Haldol injection and Depakine but the doctor removed them for me.

the Issue here is that I constantly sleep 11 hours per day . I overslept for more than a year now.
I visited my doctor many times and he is reducing my dozes without any improvements.

I am asking if there is anybody faced the same issue as me and successfully managed to normal sleep.
is there any medications that I can take ?

I wish I knew. I drink small amount of caffeine to get out of bed. I hope you find something that works.

Happy cake day by the way!

When I entered a hospital in 1987 I told them that I had trouble sleeping, and they put me on “Elavil”, and that kept me sleeping regularly for about six months, but after that I reverted to my old ways. The pdoc said that Elavil sometimes gets a person back onto a regular sleep schedule. It is an old medicine, a tricyclic antidepressant combined with a sedative. It did keep me on a regular schedule for a while, but by then insomnia was so ingrained in my daily activities that Elavil couldn’t keep me on a regular schedule. I’ve had insomnia since I was seven years old. To tell you the truth, I kind of like it, because it gives me time to ruminate.

I sleep from 6pm to 6am most nights - infact if i dont my day is ruined. Maybe just set an alarm clock in the morning? And brew up a coffee?

I went from sleeping 10 hours a day to 8 or less simply adding some decent, regular exercise. I still have the odd nap but I’ll have a 20 minute power nap and all good.

You’d be suprised by the difference some exercise makes for your mental health too.

Maybe try exercising or switching medicine

I asked a lot of doctors why I am tired all the time.

I sleep 11-12 hours each night.

That’s the life with meds.

Adding exercise made a huuuuuge difference. Even walking for half an hour a day will help. Less junk food and more veggies also helps. Having hobbies you enjoy also gets you out of bed (I like photographing sunrises).

Im not sure best to qsk your doctor. Maybe thats just how much sleep your body needs. Everyone is different. Maybe coffee can help early in the day so it doesnt impact your sleep in the evening…best of luck!

Yes actually i agree with that very much. I was thinking in terms of medicine and stuff but in terms of activities i think exercise would help. Its the opposite of the sleep/fast time of day. A mid day work out i think might help.

Modafinil use for narcolepsy but i m not sure if its used for long terms or not.

You could visualize your entire sleeping routine. This includes taking your medications at a certain time, setting an alarm, and waking up when the alarm goes off.

An alarm clock that punches you in the crotch!

I spent almost 17 years sleeping 12 hours a day. When they had me on 40mg of Olanzapine.

And when I was up I was drinking 10-15 cups of coffee a day just to stay with it.

That’s just what some of these drugs do to some of us.

I’m now on Lurasidone and it doesn’t sedate me at all. In fact when I quit Olanzapine I developed severe insomnia and now take clonazepam for sleep. I’m also on Trazodone for akathisia but it helps with sleep to a little.

If I get 7 hours I’m lucky. Now my problem is that I don’t get enough sleep many nights.
