I am a 27 years old male, I am diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression for about a year now. I am tapering off from Risperidone ( taking half a pill per day) but from the other side I am taking 2 pills of zoloft each day for my depression.
I have been suffering from oversleeping for 7 months now. I sleep for 10-12 hours every day. my sleep is not regular I can no more sleep at night.
is there someone faced this issue before?
Hey and welcome to the forum! I had a similar problem when I was taking my meds in the AM. When my doctor switched me to taking the meds in the PM, my sleep problems got fixed.
Most antipsychs like Risperdal can be sedating. I take antidepressants in the morning…anti psychs at night. The ad’s can be activating and give you a boost but we are all different. IT’s not uncommon to sleep a lot on our meds.
I used to sleep 14 hours while on risperdal or zyprexa (olanzapine). I slept 8-10 hours while on Abilify or Latuda.
For me, taking antipsychotics before sleeping is best, less side effects and makes me sleepy, nauseous and dizzy.
Thanks a lot, I was very happy when I found this forum
I spoke to my doctor today about oversleep. he told me that there is no medical explanation for this and that I should force my way out and sty awake . he just lowered my dose today. I hope this will work.
Try drinking coffee or strong black tea.
It works for me. It keeps me awake.
