I’m a little worried that since Latuda has a lot of akathisia that maybe it has just as much risk for tarditive dyskinisea as Haldol. Should I be taking seroquel if I’m worried about tarditive dyskinsea
Does anyone know how much they are even related? Akathisia and TD?
Latuda makes me very internally wound up and restless, but I never got any muscle twitch type stuff.
Haldol is typical and Letuda is atyp. The old typicals are supposed to have a higher risk of TD verses the atyp meds.
One of the things the typicals did to me was make me pace. I could not sit still. I was at this assisted living center and they were giving this class. I kept getting up and pacing, and this woman kept telling me not to do that. I stayed at that place for about two hours, then I hit the highway. None of the atypicals ever made me have to move around like that. The typicals are probably much worse about causing restlessness and a need to move in certain ways than atypicals are.
No, antipsychotics commonly prescribed now should not give tardive dyskinesia as bad as original ones did. If you’re concerned, apparently clozapine has the smallest chance of developing it.
Tardive Dyskinesia I’m not surprised was comon with the typicals as years ago they would prescribe massive doses, for example haloperidol went up to 100mg a day but they will prescribe a maximum of 15mg to 20mg these days. I’ve heard of Seroquel being one of the safest but can in rare cases still cause the problem, also been told that Seroquel alone isn’t an effective med in a lot of cases (Don’t know if it’s true, I’d try it but afraid of relapse and weight gain).
Old fashioned, Typical Antipsychotics (Haldol) are worse for increasing your chances to develop Tardive Dyskinesia over the newer Atypical Antipsychotics like Latuda.
