I was just put on haldol during in patient and is td common since we use lower doses now?
Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a side effect that some people get after long-term (decades) use of anti-psychotics, so you’re in a place where the benefits far outweigh the risks.
I hope you feel better soon.
What dose are you on, that might also affect your risk of TD. Higher doses for a long time typically cause it.
5 mg three times a day
15mg a day is a pretty typical dose. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I took 10mg a day for a couple years and never had any problems, just occasional akathisia. One thing you definitely want to look out for is a dystonic reaction. This is where your muscles tense up and you can’t move them. It’s very painful. If that happens, take 50mg of Benadryl (2 tablets) and have someone take you to a hospital if it doesn’t go away.
I have cogentin for akathesia, thank you for your responses
You’re a great guy love you neighbor
