I know I ask a lot of questions but I’m fairly new and I’ve no one else to ask who has similar things. Any how I’ve become more and more suspicious of people especially when I’m shopping etc but today I asked the neighbour to unlock the alleyway gate to put my recycling out and she passed a comment on how I’ve managed to unlock my side gate. I don’t know how she knows this as she can’t see my side gate from her house. I’ve started thinking maybe she has a camera and key to my house as she was friends with the previous tenant. I’m trying not to think about it but it keeps popping into my head and now I feel like I’m being watched. So much so that I wanted to ask her. It’s v confusing. Is it me being paranoid or something else?
I think she meant you unlocked it, take your own bin out. Sorry but I don’t know if your neighbour is an ■■■■■■■ or not.
When I get thoughts like that I sort them under paranoia. Then I try to work with one paranoid panic subject at a time.
Well, I don’t understand about the gate at all but it is possible you are being watched. In todays world it is very real possibility for just about anyone to spy on their neighbors with the ever increasingly smaller and more sophisticated technologies of this field. Just as long as the poveratzy don’t start following me around on their motor cycles I will just have to do my thing regardless of anyone watching so I just pretend I’m making a movie for everyone to see and this keeps me out of trouble. I might have been in a few porno flicks even for all I know.
While there is always the possibility your neighbor is a freak who wants to watch the things you do from your side gate, it is more likely you are experiencing paranoia symptoms. Try to ask yourself reasonable questions. If your neighbor is watching you, what would her motive be? Why would she care? Is it possible she just saw your side gate while she was walking? Where would the camera be hidden? After going through all these questions, maybe you will start to see how unlikely it is that your neighbor has a camera on your side gate. If you still can’t shake the paranoia, just avoid using that part of your house or keep your curtains closed until the feeling goes away.
On another note, never apologize for asking questions. Personally, I love answering questions, because it makes me feel like I’m a useful part of the community. We are all here to help each other. So ask as many questions as you want.
Why don’t we just cut to the chase? Paranoid projections of others motives are pretty typically (though not always) the result of PTSD + genetic predispositions to sensory hyper-sensitivity. Is there any particular reason you might have PTSD? (See http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/post-traumatic-stress-disorder/basics/causes/con-20022540.)
I found it terrifically empowering to know why I saw things the way I did (and still can when I’m over-stressed). I had all kinds of subtle (as well as not so subtle) child abuse. It really colored the way I interpreted what others said and did (and… still can when I’m over-stressed).
It sounds like a paranoid delusion to me. Why would she want to spy on you? I’m sure she has tons of stuff to worry about.
It’s just for her to know that I’ve had the padlock cut off my side gate she’d have to come right out of her garden and walk along the street and stand on front of my house. She may just be a v nosey neighbour I suppose but that’s a lot of effort. I don’t think Ali have post traumatic stress, I don’t get flash backs etc. it’s just once the thought it is my head it’s hard to get it out.
Thanks cj9556 for kind words
I doubt she is taking pictures of you or your house. And I think some landlords change the locks on all the doors when a tenant moves out and a new one moves in.
Don’t worry about asking too many questions. I personally like answering questions, it’s a challenge. That’s what this site is here for. And don’t forget the old saying, “The only stupid question is the one that was never asked”.
