Is £250 a month enough to live on = £62.50 week?

I seriously need to budget. After my outgoings I’ll have £62.50 a week for groceries (excluding cleaning products as the group home provide these) I’m not buying cigs or alcohol. I don’t need petrol as don’t run a car. I have a bus pass from the country council so don’t need transport costs. The £62.50 will be spend on food shopping and occasionally eating out.

Is it doable?

So long as the bills are paid.

Who organised your social care @bobbilly ??

I have looked online, and it looks like I might get some help

Might have to pay towards it though, but if it means things get better I will try

I take 313 euros per month.
It’s ridiculous.
Not enough for anything.

@Joker

Somebody called social services on me in 2009 as I wasn’t coping, my bungalow was a mess, I was neglecting myself. Social services came out and they did an assessment. Because I went to a special needs school I was assessed by the intellectual disability team.

I told them about neighbours trying to kill me, I was quickly sectioned, they did a IQ test. I scored 69 points which meant I was eligible for their support. They moved me into supported housing, gave me a support package. 13 hospitalisations laster I’m still in the house group home after 10 years living a happy life, still have the same community nurse.

@Joker if you’ve been on a section 3 you won’t have to pay for your support if you get offered a support package

How do you get spotify for £7.50 a month? isn’t it £9.99 to me?

We have the family account which is £15 a month so me and a friend slip it so £7.50 each.

It sounds barely enough or a little under what is possible to live on.
I would want to eat out, I like fast food too much. Also I like my soft drinks
But its nice of them to give money in the first place so we don’t end up in the streets.
Where I live I get Rent, water, electricity, health insurance etc. paid thats >500€. And I have like 500€ extra for internet, phone and food. 1000€ is about 850 GBP Sterling. I probably use 14€ or so a day for food and drinking on avg. Its not enough to save and the last month I have seen my account balance dwindle.

Depends on how expensive is living in the UK. Are taxes high? Is living expensive?

It’s cheaper in U.K. for food than America. Also better produce in the average supermarket. Local cheeses, local farmed meat.

I don’t pay taxes because on benefits, we get taxed on things like 20% but food is still cheaper then the states so I’ve read.

Well here 250$/month is not enough to live on.

@Aziz thats just for food for one person.

I think for me even just for food 250$/month isn’t enough but if things are cheaper in the UK then 250£ is enough.

I lived in UK, but I forgot the prices because I didn’t have to worry about it then.
My Flat was like 450 GBP + all the bills. I prefered tesco over Lidl.

250£ is 425$CA, that should be enough I think.

When I used to work I ate outside a lot, I spent 500$/month just on restaurant food.

What are the food prices like where you live?
If you cook and don’t eat out much, it should be doable.

I eat 2-4 loaves of bread a week
1 box of quick oats
2 packs of spaghetti
1 bag of rice
A few bags of spices
Toppings for bread
2 packs of meat
1 pack of mini sausages
4-6 onions
A pack of chicken legs
Maybe a few bottles of soda
And a can of coffee

I usually spend maybe 40-50euros on that.
I also buy on sale and in bulk when possible.

Over here in Delaware USA, I get $250/mo for food, $79/mo cash. I have to pay $22 for rent, the rest is subsidized, utilities are included in rent coz I kinda weaseled them into it, so all said and done I have $57 cash and $250 food stamps. The cash is a joke but enough for non-foods, I just got 3 sets of guitar strings and that took months of planning. All enough to live on, so live on I do.
