I spend hours on the internet as well. Primarily this forum. I suppose it is an addiction as well.
I don’t have a solution to your problem except maybe, if you really want to break the habit, find other things that you enjoy to keep you occupied. If you are bored you are likely to find yourself right back on the internet. If you are busy, you have a better chance of avoiding it to a degree.

I know this from experience, because I recently took a significant partial break from social media, and to a lesser degree, internet in general. I occupied my time with electrical work, guitar and other things. Because I was busy, I had few issues avoiding it for the most part.

Maybe try setting a timer to limit your internet use?

Do me a favour - there is no “internet addiction”. What you want some flaming therapy group or something?

Just turn the bloody thing off.

i can limit the hours i spent for a few days then i relapse

Come on, it not like your doing drugs is it?. Im on the internet 15 hours a day, dont mean im addicted to it. Get your priority’s straight.

If you said to a Psychiatrist “your addicted to the internet” - they would laugh at you.

yeah you are right keeping myself busy helps a lot but when i have free time i crave the internet and finally relapse.

What a load of utter bollox. Why cant you just enjoy it?

i love to have control over life and myself

Well its not the internet then is it? Its your own issues.

maybe you are right i dont have enough will. i guess a drug could help me to overcome craving. maybe reward system modulation drug?

You’ve got me interested: what can I do on the computer? I don’t want tic toc or Instagram. I see people in cafes and libraries that look very occupied in the computer and I wonder what the hell are they doing? They look placid, it isn’t natural!

The Net is how I socialize and also learn.

When the addiction gets in the way of other duties, so much so that it is destructive then it really needs to be addressed, imho.

If the need and desire to be on the internet made you miss appointments in real life for example. then you could regard it as destructive.

If you could not give up the internet even though it is being destructive to your life then you could consider it an addiction.

Other than that, then enjoying something you love like being on the internet isn’t comparable to shooting up heroin or downing a bottle of whisky, even though you may seem to build you life around this internet activity.

Is it causing you harm? Is it interfering in relationships? Is it stopping you from doing other stuff?

If it does then like other addictions it needs to be reassessed and looked at.

Online courses are fun. I’m currently doing this one:

Being placid is very natural, but apparently not for you.

Im on my phone almost all day. I dont care either. I have no interest in anything. So i just watch videos all day.

For me, too, it is an addiction. I disagree that it is bollox, that your psych would laugh at you, and that it isnt like drugs. I have disconnected for a long while from the internet. That was a good solution. I also have had times, and consider doing that again, that I only used it outside of my home. E.g. in the library or a coffee bar. Just once a week or so. This helped me feel a lot better, and control how much I was on it.
