Locking myself out

I decided I will lock myself out of internet 3 days a week. Ofcourse I need software to help me do this. I have aquired a program that blocks the webbrowsers from opening at specific times. I have a block set up from 4.30pm to 8am the following day, every tuesday, thursday and sunday.

The reason I am doing this is because I tried it before and I became much more at ease in my head with less time online. I believe that im my case, spending too much time on the computer is contributing to negative mental health. I have a addiction problem with the internet. Basically I am forcing myself to do something else, which might seem hard at first, but it becomes a habit after a while.

I think you’re doing the right thing. Internet usage I believe has been documented to correlate with lesser mental health. Typical use of it, is damaging imo. It becomes repetitive and you are desensitised to what you take in. It’s a recipe for staring at a blank wall in a locked room repercussions.

Yes, I actually had a full time job at computing where i basically did the same process over and over every 10 minutes for 8 hours every day. After one and a half year in this job I had my first psychosis. I definitly think it will be good for me to moderate my computer face time. I don’t have internet on my phone, so at least I don’t have to worry about that.

Sounds like a good idea. I’m online too much too, but I’m not ready to lock myself out of it yet.

Good move. The brain is a muscle and needs rest as well. Being wired 24/7/365 is exhausting today’s youth in my opinion.

Yes I agree. There has never been more psychiatric diagnoses and drop outs from school in my country than right now amongst kids. And the one major thing that has changed since the 90’s is the introduction of internet, so it stands to reason that it has something to do with excessive use of computers and too much screen time.

I think that’s a cool thing to do. I’ve been trying to take more breaks from screens. Seems like everyday I’m just wasting on looking at my phone. My eyes feel tired and brain gets tired from all that screen time

It’s hard to just say you are gonna do it. That’s why I need help from a program that actually locks me out. There are certain apps you could try for mobiles like qustodio or spin browser which have time setting features, the only problem is that you still have the password to change the settings, so you would have to give the password to someone else or leave it in your job locker or something like that for safekeeping. Internet is like a drug.
