Before I had my meds changed 25mg quetiapine knocked me out like a punch from Frank Bruno. I also find temazepam is much better for sleeping than diazepam.
I have insomnia too, if I don’t take my meds. I take a mood stabilizer just for sleep. I take Trileptal to help me sleep. They took me off it because they realized I wasn’t bipolar and I wasn’t able to sleep so they put me back on it. pdoc said it was safer than anything she could prescribe for sleep so I should just stay on it. Before I had a psychotic illness, I took melatonin and Xanax and slept like a rock. When I was hospitalized the first time, they took me off all that and started me on Risperdal and Trileptal. I am lucky that the Trileptal helps me sleep. Insomnia is very hard. Sleep hygiene is a good place to start.
I have insomnia for three years now since I got sick, the only thing which works on me is medication, I’ve tried many herbs and natural ways…
Unfortunately, I’m not being prescribed for sleeping pills or even sedatives (except Diazepam) because I have a long history of overdose. Yes, it’s my fault but anyways
I’ve only been sleeping about five hours or so a night for several weeks now. I am on Abilify 30mg, taken in the morning. I see my pdoc Thursday and will address this issue with her then. Hope we all find some respite from the insomnia soon.
All I can recommend is melatonin or valerian, like others have mentioned and yourself. Also try and kick caffeine a few hours before bed, that could help.
