Insomnia is driving me crazy

Nothing seems to be working on my insomnia. I couldn’t sleep all night yesterday.

So I took 20 mg of Diazepam and 400 mg of Valerian Root today. It’s been an hour and I’m still awake. And of course my medication as prescribed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

been taking melatonin liquid form past few nights on top of my meds seems to let me relax enough to pass out but not if I have the tv or comp on…

I use 1 mg melatonin, 25 seroquel, vitamin b6, no coffee. What meds do you take?

Before I had my meds changed 25mg quetiapine knocked me out like a punch from Frank Bruno. I also find temazepam is much better for sleeping than diazepam.

I’m on Aripiprazole 15 mg twice daily, Lamotrigine 200 mg and Quetiapine 200 mg

Google sleep hygiene and really research it all.

I have insomnia too, if I don’t take my meds. I take a mood stabilizer just for sleep. I take Trileptal to help me sleep. They took me off it because they realized I wasn’t bipolar and I wasn’t able to sleep so they put me back on it. pdoc said it was safer than anything she could prescribe for sleep so I should just stay on it. Before I had a psychotic illness, I took melatonin and Xanax and slept like a rock. When I was hospitalized the first time, they took me off all that and started me on Risperdal and Trileptal. I am lucky that the Trileptal helps me sleep. Insomnia is very hard. Sleep hygiene is a good place to start.

I have insomnia for three years now since I got sick, the only thing which works on me is medication, I’ve tried many herbs and natural ways…

Unfortunately, I’m not being prescribed for sleeping pills or even sedatives (except Diazepam) because I have a long history of overdose. Yes, it’s my fault but anyways

Thanks anyway

I’ve only been sleeping about five hours or so a night for several weeks now. I am on Abilify 30mg, taken in the morning. I see my pdoc Thursday and will address this issue with her then. Hope we all find some respite from the insomnia soon.

Not having a sleep is deeply frighting. Its is the mind revenge of something extremely important we have forgotten to do in the day.

Some of my tips

  • One should give more time to think about life, purpose etc
  • Avoid using too much drugs and alcohol as it only worsens the situation
  • Maintain a log about the sleep patterns
  • Don’t drink too much water before sleep or you will wake up to urinate
  • Avoid screen such as tv, mobile, gaming at least 30 minutes before going to bed

All I can recommend is melatonin or valerian, like others have mentioned and yourself. Also try and kick caffeine a few hours before bed, that could help.

I could not sleep much when I tried Abilify / aripiprazole
