Im torn between getting a dog or getting a bird

im doing some research … trying to work out what would be the better option for us…. I’ve never had a pet before. part of me wants the dog, but part of me wants a bird.

Birds are less work so if you’re not used to giving constant attention like training, playing, and walking a few times a day everyday, it’s probably best to start with a bird

Hands down a bird. So so so intelligent. If they are hand reared they are so cuddley too. Beautiful creatures.

Depending on the bird, they’re more work and far more expensive for vet bills if they get sick due to being an exotic animal.

Many birds require a lot of attention and some will even pluck their feathers out due to stress.

I don’t know anything about birds or bird care, I’ve always had cats and the oldest lived until 17. So I have thought about, in the future, getting a large cool sort of bird that would ideally live longer.

Birds are beautiful and can make good pets but many are prone to having lots of health issues.

with a pet, you change their life forever by being their mom…don’t forsake the dog because he or she is hard to keep from pottying in the house…we just took our rescue dog out every five mins. or so for about a week…and it clicked with him the words “ go pottie for daddy”…

EZ get a bird dog, theyll catch as many ducks and other birds in a day as you like

They’re both labor intensive but in different ways.

I prefer cats, they’re the easiest by far.

Between your two options though I’d get a dog. A calm, medium sized breed like a yellow lab. Small breeds are too noisy and huge breeds take enormous craps, so a nice medium dog is optimal.

I imagine birds being noisy, biting you with a sharp beak, flying around the room and you can’t catch them, have to cage them (I hate caging animals for any reason). I know some people love them though.

This varies. I had a small dog who rarely barked. I had a medium size dog that barked incessantly.

It’s best to adopt a dog through a rescue that does pet foster care so you can get a description of the dog’s personality from the foster.

I mean it’s a tendency, all tendencies have exceptions

My aunt’s Jack Russels were an absolute nightmare

This problem can be solved by spending time with the dog before you adopt him/her so you can see how their personality is.
