I read on the Social Security website that there are three tests you undergo if you are self employed with your own business.
Monthly earnings over $1170.00
Your work is comparable to the work of person’s without disability in your community engaged in the same or similar businesses.
Your work is worth more than the SGA level earnings ($1170.00) in terms of it’s effects on the business.
I’m afraid that I would fall under category no. 2. In other words, I’m doing the same work activities of other people in my line of work, even though I am NOT making any profit at all. I have an Avon business.
yea ive considered this myself, but its kinda tricky for me. im still testing myself if i can handle “real” work. ive gotten better compared to where i was before. Im not sure if you recieved something from SS that explains something like a “ticket to work” thing. im not sure if they consider it all the same, but basically you go to a agency that tries to work with you what “you” can do. i still have the same issue, im “trying” volounteer work for now…but if you wanna do something that will work with you. Look it up~
I’ve been doing volunteer work for years and years, so, I can handle that. But, Avon is supposedly paid work but I’m definitely not making any money doing it so, I’m not sure if I have to report it. I haven’t reported it yet and its been 5 weeks.
The problem with finding another job is that I don’t own a car and I cannot drive. I simply can’t. So, that rules out most jobs. That is why Avon would have been perfect for me, if I could only make money at it.
When I worked at Target I used to give a co-worker a ride home after work. It might be possible to car pool to a job. I got to admit though, the chances are probably slim. How about public transportation or walking? When my dad worked for the state, he became friends with a co-worker who picked him up for work every day.
If you’re talking about my using the word “slim” I should say I really don’t know, you may find a job where there is a good chance of joining a car pool. My dad did this too. I shouldn’t have said “slim.”
Public transportation in the city where I live is not very good. And the weather here is notoriously awful. I doubt I would last long at it. Besides, I haven’t held a regular, time clock job in over 22 years. I highly doubt that anyone would hire me.
