I will be living out of my car

I got kicked out of my living situation, now I am at my parents. I am supposed to figure out another living situation and since my only possibly job due to anxiety is doordash, I can only afford to live out of my car. Thank God for my car. You may have assumed I’m worried but I actually think it will be fun. 100k Americans live in their cars, not all of them are happy but I am determined to find joy in it. I want to travel. I just need to find places to park. I have a bed figured out, I am using a foldable memory foam mattress.
Wish me luck.

If you have Walmarts in your area or truck stops I think they would be okay with it. Just move after a day or two to another place to avoid complaints.

I found out about a Lowes nearby that cops that is ok
I’m going to find 7 spots to park and cycle through the week

Sorry you were kicked out. I like that you’re remaining optimistic. There’s nothing wrong with living out of your car.

I think it’s important to also consider getting something to block your windows for safety.

I hope when and if you decide to put roots down somewhere, that you are successful.

For now though, good luck and stay safe friend.

Ps. Username checks out😭

Get a membership to a library so you can go there when the weather is bad to read, relax and get free Wi-Fi. Maybe you could save up to rent a camper eventually. Those are great.

I work at a library. I second this.

If you dont have a laptop, they have computers there free to use. So you can still watch your shows. They will also let you borrow dvds, audio books, and much more. Most have got A LOT of resources as well, including free events, classes and more.

The only real issue is cooking. Cooking is cheaper than fast food. I’d get an ice box for basics, can opener and a gas powered hot plate and small pan. Small Gas cylinders are cheap and you can refill at many gas stations for very little. I would buy an electric tea kettle and giant thermos you can plug into a truck stop station or library. Boil water and fill the thermos to provide hot water throughout the day. Most libraries have water stations to access cold water for free, too. Just throwing out ideas.

I don’t know where you are in the states, but Safeway also lets people stay in cars overnight.

I had a friend that lived in a super nice Mercedes that was stuffed full of possessions.

She seemed happy, though I hope she finds a more permanent situation.

It can’t be an easy life even if you’re excited for the adventure.

Be safe, man.

I would reach out to the Salvation Army to help you get off the street.

I believe there’s also a National Homeless Hotline.

Be well.

That’s awesome man!

I’ve heard great things about their programs and meals.

Mamacita donated 20$ to them last Christmas.

Well, you’re going into it with a good attitude. All I know about sleeping overnight in cars is that every time I’ve ever done it was freezing cold and always uncomfortable. If you can beat those two things then the whole thing might work out. But if I was you and I had a choice I would go to the Salvation Army like what was suggested.

Hostels are a cheap place to stay. Or a homeless shelter for meals and a bed.

I assume your parents want you to find somewhere to live and not live out of your car.

So stay with them until you’ve found a place.
