I spoke to my landlord today about the apartment inspection Thursday. She said everyone is going to have to stay with family or friends next week while the AC is fixed, because of the excessive heat. I don’t know what else to do but to go to the homeless shelter.
do you have family or friends or can rent a cheap room for a few nights?
Hey. Sorry that is your only option. A week isn’t so bad though. I spent about that long in one before on one of many trips out of town to escape during psychosis. The locals even gave us a free movie in the local theatre while I was there. A week should fly by and it’s an experience. Maybe just don’t take anything too valuable with you.
Is this HUD housing?
They can just pay for you to stay at a motel. There is no way that they can displace you to a homeless shelter. Let them know right now that you have nowhere to stay. Then tell them you would like a motel.
I don’t have any family here, I tried two friends, and they said no. I did find a motel that’s advertising $48 a night next week, but I don’t have any cash to pay for it. I just have $179 available on my credit card.
No it’s not HUD housing.
Oh im sorry to hear that. Homeless shelter isnt good but ac fixed is good so think how lovely that it will be in your home when you grt back
What about sleeping in your car at night? A cool cloth on your head if its really hot outside
Cant you get a window air conditioner and stay in your unit, seems like an unreasonable situation to me

I don’t have a car or the money to buy a window unit with. My choices are limited.
Honestly they should pay you the motel as you’re paying for that day for fixing the AC.
@Aziz makes a good point about paying for those days. Are they taking the cost off these days of your rent? I would think they should at least do that.
Thanks @Aziz @Bowens
She did say she would knock something off next month’s rent. She didn’t know about putting me up in a motel though.
I would request that they pay for a motel room for you. It seems like a reasonable request since ypu are being displaced due to their making repairs. You pay rent after all, so they need to.provide you with alternative accomodation if you cant stay in your apartment.
I agree with @Aziz and @Moonbeam and @Bowens .
They need to be paying or letting you stay in the apartment. I don’t get why you have to move out for an AC to be fixed. The only thing that you would do is be just standing a bit in their way.
Thanks @Moonbeam @TheFountainPen
It’s going to be extremely hot and humid next week which is why they don’t want people staying in the building. My landlord was going to check if they can put me up in a motel. Either that, or she said she would reduce my rent due August 1st.
Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been researching motels and hotels I could stay in.
I agree, would ask them to book a hotel or motel for you, that way they cannot argue if the bills are too high, or demand a few weeks discount on your rent. They should be responsible for it.
Thanks @anon84628834
My main problem is that I have to find a place to go that’s on a bus route because I don’t have a car. It’s Sunday morning now, and I’m waiting to hear from my landlord.
