I want to get off invega

I’ve been on invega since 2008. There was a period of around one year where I tried other meds. I haven’t been doing to well lately and want to try something different. I scheduled an appointment with my pdoc to deal with this, but I would like to hear others peoples experiences or ups and downs with their antipsychotics. Drugs I’ve tried and don’t want to take are seroquel, abilify, zyprexa, geodon, and invega. I have a friend on a typical antipsychotic that seems to work for him. I’m gonna tell my doctor I’d be open to try and old med and maybe even clozapine. Is anyone taking a typical antipsychotic and doing well? What are your side effects? Are you stable? Is your mood or outlook better? Thanks

I take perphenazine 16mg in the am 8mg in the afternoon and 16mg at night. Perphenazine is an oldie. I have been on it for a long time. I have a small bit of tardive dyskinesia that I take benztropine with it. Most of my side effects were in the beginning.

My moods are ok. Talk to your pdoc about what he she could do for you. I didn’t do well on clozapine after week one. But it may work for you.

Thanks. I’m gonna have to talk to my doctor, she’ll probably have some ideas. I don’t know I’ve been out of control lately, I think maybe the akathisia. I saw a girl on YouTube have a similar experience with invega and being unable to chill. I’m on benztropine as well but still antsy.

I’m on a old one Clopixol. I’ve been on that for over 25 years. None side effects worth to mention. New antipsychotics are over hyped and you get no value for your money. If you are from USA then try perphenazine first and if that doesn’t work then get Haldol.

I’m gonna look into perphenazine. Invega causes sexual side effects, weight gain, and gynecomastia which I’ve been dealing with forever. It would be nice to have a drug that works as well as doesn’t have those kinds of effects. It’d be kind of an ancillary benefit but also a major improvement.

I want to get off Invega injections too. It causes me to experience TD. I’ve tried Seroquel. Abilify, Zyprexa, and Risperidone.

Invega has lawsuits against it for having carcinogens and impure chemicals in it and can cause men to grow breasts. Maybe ask for a pill to take as needed instead ? Silver colloidal supplement works well to

Hi @TheSecondVariety , invega didn’t suit me either. It gave me palpitations to the extreme. I understand regarding Olanzapine, I put weight on so quickly and lactated the whole time I was on it. Seroquel I find is a good AS at night, due to it’s sedating effects.
I had a bad reaction to Clozapine. But 99% of people I know who take it there lives have changed dramatically. For the better.

Another great medication imo is Amisulpride. It’s only prescribed for schizophrenia and has little to no sedating side effects. If you are in the US, Amisulpride has not yet been approved by the FDA. This too increases prolactin, but I have had no issues as of yet. Works for both negative and positive symptoms of schizophrenia.

Hope you find the best

I take haloperidol and amisulpride. Lovely combination with very few side effects except high prolactin and slight akathisia.
