I tried to get back into video games

I bought Doom (2016) on Steam and just can’t get into it like I wanted to. It’s waaay too bloody and gruesome and that takes away from the experience in my opinion. I used to love playing video games. I guess I’ve outgrown them and that kind of sucks. Anyone else outgrow an old, favorite hobby?

If you think that’s bloody, you should see Doom Eternal.

I’m sad that you’ve outgrown gaming. It’s my favorite hobby and I love it, whenever I’m not feeling a spell of avolition. I don’t know what I’d do without it, watch a lot of TV I guess. A lot of older folks look down on games as a waste of time, but those same people will spend dozens of hours a week on a model train set or fixing up an old car they like or simply watching TV. I think there’s a stigma on gamers which isn’t very fair.

I agree about the unfair stigma of gamers. And you’re right - people that gripe about games just waste their time in another way. I tried Fallout 3 and some older games, just can’t get into them. Sux.

Do you have any plans to try another hobby?

Back to listening to music and crunching numbers on my computers trying to find a prime number. So far I’ve found 15 and double-checked 6 others.

I still really like video games. I play both single player and online multiplayer games. I’ve been playing Overwatch and Elder Scrolls Online now that I’ve beaten The Last of Us Part II and Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Anyone looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077?

I’m gonna pre-order Cyberpunk on my Series X as soon as I hook it up.

The games I’m pre ordering for it are Call of Duty Cold War, Watch Dogs Legion, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, and Cyberpunk.

im 39 and i love video games although these days i watch twitch more than playing them.watch other play for me :slightly_smiling_face:

Some games are more fun to watch than play. There’s this PC game called Rust that I love watching skilled people play, you start off naked and harvest rocks and trees for materials and end up building little bases and crafting simple firearms to take down other players and take all their stuff.

Wow, I hope you enjoy your Series X. Not sure when or if I will get a next gen console. I want both though so I can enjoy all the games. I really liked The Last of Us Part II and am looking forward to Part III.

I’m pre ordering demons souls just for the bonus, even though I won’t have a PS5 until next year. Really excited for that one.

The main benefit of Series X for me is that some of my favorite Xbox One games will load a lot faster, and some will improve graphically. Fallout 4 is going from 30 FPS to 60 FPS on the Series X.

You’re not alone on this one - i also used to like video games and now it’s like I turn the game on for few minutes and i always find something that i don’t like about the game, it sucks. I ended up having about 10 games on my PC and played none.

Yep, I play for 20-30 minutes and just say forget it. Doesn’t hold my attention, and I really just don’t care.

Anyone know if the Series S is a smart purchase for someone with just a 1080p TV? I’m not planning to upgrade to a 4K for a while, so I was thinking the Series S might be smart to get.
