I started volunteering, but suicidal

I started volunteering in a kitchen for a club for mentally ill. It’s a busy place. I was so tired i hardly made it.

At the same time i’m on MAO-i- and the side effects are a lot, but mostly a leaden kind of tiredness, that makes me want to commit suicide.

I have got a lot to live for so I tell myself to hold on and keep on going but it’s tough.

If you are feeling suicidal or having a mental health crisis, please tell someone — a friend or family member, a teacher, a doctor or therapist or call 911 (if you’re in the U.S.) or the Emergency Medical Services phone number in your country.

You can also call a crisis intervention hotline—these are available in the U.S. and in many other countries. You do not need to be actively suicidal to benefit from a crisis hotline.

If the MAOI makes you feel worse, you should tell the Dr who prescribed it to you immediately

I hope you feel better soon

I am sorry you’re struggling so much. I know how hard you’ve been trying. Please talk to your doctor. Keep trying. You are a fighter.

I know the lecture probably isn’t helpful right now, but alcohol will exacerbate the side effects of an MAOI. You will likely feel even worse when you drink it. If that happens, I hope you can remind yourself it is a drug interaction, and not a sign things are getting even worse for you. There is hope. You;re still adjusting to your new med, and your doc might need to tweak things a bit to give you more quality of life.

You haven’t been on it that long. There’s a good possibility that this side effect will go away.

Thanks @LilyoftheValley - i know there is some drugs out there, buporbion, and modafinil, who can ease my fatigue, and i have to ask my pdoc about it.

Ask your psych nurse about that tomorrow. There are interactions listed, but your nurse would know more about it than the internet.

Using disulfiram together with medications like isocarboxazid has rarely resulted in delirium and other psychiatric reactions. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased or unusual side effects. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Thanks, I will, even though I have tried that combination in the past without any reaction.

All of this is due to my extreme fatigue. If mao-i didn’t make me so tired, i would be able to be sober and volunteer without any problem.

I’m so sick of being tired. I even took some methadone trying to get some energy. It has helped in the past, but at the moment i’m weaning off. I dont want to take methadone anymore.

Concentrate on the volunteering and improving your life @bluebutterfly don’t be another suicide victim.

Thanks @Yellowapple i will. I also started a novel about my experiences being a schizo, and I need to finish that novel. I have written two commercial crime fiction stories in the past, so it’s not out of the blue.
