Before I started taking ap’s I was 140 pounds. Now I am 205 pounds. I was a size 9 now I’m a 16. I’m only in my late 20’s. What can I do? How can I lose weight while on ap’s because they made me gain all of this weight
Try fasting. You can look up how to do it online. I’ve done it and lost 15 pounds.
Try maby a low carb diet
How long did you do it for?
That’s a good idea but I’m thinking about getting rid of all carbs, maybe even the keto diet.
Theres some research that the keto diet is good for schizophrenia
Really… I think it would be a good diet plan.
For 2 months I was on the diet. I’m still on a diet but I’m not fasting as much. Fasting works though.
I’ve lost 20 lbs drinking a protein shake as a meal, then 400 calories as snacks. Limit your calories. I do 1000 calories a day to lose weight.
@anon55704218 the antipsychotic you’re on makes a huge difference.
Someone here once said you have a choice between weight gain and diabetes, or movement problems. I choose movement problems after gaining a lot of weight.
I suggest you try to take drugs like Haldol, Abilify, Amisulpride or Latuda. All of those options have less impact on weight, and I have now been on all of these and I was either losing weight or maintaining it.
On the other end of the spectrum are things like Olanzapine. That drug made me put on 35 kilos, so now I refuse anything like it.
I want to try that but it’s so hard because this medicine makes me crave food.
Maybe try to it more vegetables and fruit, and go for moderate 30min. walks daily. That is how to start. The medication together with sz takes willpower. Give yourself 5 years time. Talk with your clinical psychologist or psychiatrist that you suffer enormously with your weight gain.
For myself I 've been overweight since childhood, I only was slim for 6 months in my life where i got diagnosed sz.
Yes I plan to get to a healthy weight on aps. I have lost one kg to the present moment.
I accept I will be sad during this phase due to how DIFFICULT it is but if all goes to plan, that won’t stop me. I will skip starchy food for breakfast.
i eat lots of fruit and veg and dont eat chocolate or sweets…it keeps my weight down
also you should take up jogging…its tough at frst but you get into it…i run 2 km a day…it burn off some fat…
if youre keen you should try it, jogging can seem daunting but initially walk/jog,
run 50 metres then walk 50 metres and then build it up gradually
I thought about that, that’s a good idea thanks
I was ravenous when I started zyprexa, but I had spent a lot of time getting in really good shape before antipsychotics. I was pissed. I ate some protein powder mixed with a little water to make goo, to take the edge off. I forget how long this went on, but I didnt gain a lot of weight.
When i started risperidone a few years later, i was ravenous again and ate whatever i wanted, like bags of snickers bars. Then i gained 35 lbs.
LS! Methinks key to losing weight is having a good diet plan and a good exercise plan and sticking to it with discipline for a couple of years. Since January 2018 I do intermittent fasting, I fast Thursdays and Sundays. I exercise seven days a week: three days a week two times 20 minutes on my Concept2 rower, two days a week exercises with 32 lbs dumbbells and two days a week to the gym. In addition to that I try to walk some every day and sometimes I do YouTube seated senior Tai Chi with David-Dorian Ross. So far I lost 25 kilo’s. Still 25 kilo’s to go. Succes!
which med did you agree too?
Sugar coated lies…
Eat a ribeye, as fatty as possible. And then another. And another.
P.S Go Ketogenic/Carnivore
Don’t thank me all at once.
