Well I’ve ordered some of this (thanks @firemonkey )
https://www.iherb.com/pr/Now-Foods-L-Carnosine-500-mg-100-Veg-Capsules/457
I intend to take 1g a day.
Nothing ventured nothing gained I guess.
Highlights
•We assessed the safety and efficacy of L-carnosine as an adjuvant to risperidone for treatment of negative symptoms in patients with stable schizophrenia.
•Patients who received L-carnosine showed significant improvement in negative subscale scores of the positive and negative syndrome scale (PANSS) over the course of eight weeks
•Treatment with L-carnosine seems to be well tolerated with no serious adverse events.
Abstract
Since l-carnosine has shown effectiveness in improvement of cognition in patients with schizophrenia, this 8-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study was conducted. Sixty-three patients with chronic schizophrenia, who were clinically…

I haven’t noticed much. I also started taking L Tryptophan. There seems to be a lot of uses for L Carnosine so maybe if you have other issues you don’t know about it is helping as well.

My schizophrenia did feel like it got worse when I took it though. As for the benefits I’m still an idiot. I got back onto Sarcosine to combat the symptoms. I feel fine now though.
I think it made the positive symptoms worse. That’s the voices right?

Oh. Eeek. Thanks I’ll watch out for that.

I don’t hear voices but that’s not an encouraging sign
Anyway. It’s just yet another experiment. I got lucky with L-theanine maybe I’ll get lucky with this. I was sad NAC didn’t work out for me. I have my suspicions that it had a mild interaction with abilify.

It looks like Vitamin E increases the efficiency of L Carnosine.

Current aging science , Jul 2013
Oxidative stress plays an important role in aging. Effects of several antioxidants on age-related oxidative stress have been investigated. Carnosine (CAR) and betaine have antioxidant actions. The combination of CAR with vitamin E(CAR+E) increases its antioxidant efficiency. We investigated the effects of CAR+E and betaine treatments on oxidative and antioxidative status in liver, heart and brain tissues of aged rats. Experiments were carried out on young (5 months)and aged (22 months) male Wistar rats. Aged rats were given CAR (250 mg/kg; i.p.; 5 days per week) and vitamin E (200mg/kg; i.m.; twice per week) or betaine (1% w/v) for two months. Malondialdehyde (MDA) and diene conjugate (DC)levels and antioxidants were measured. MDA and DC levels were higher in tissues of aged rats than young rats. Glutathione(GSH) levels decreased in liver, but not heart and brain. There were no changes in vitamin E and vitamin C levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and glutathione transferase (GST) activities in tissues of aged rats. CAR+E treatment was observed to decrease MDA and DC levels in tissues of aged rats. However, betaine decreased only hepatic MDA and DC levels. Both CAR+E and betaine increased hepatic GSH and vitamin E levels, but these treatments did not affect antioxidant enzyme activities. These results suggest that CAR+E treatment seems to be useful to decrease oxidative stress in liver, heart and brain tissues, but betaine is only effective in liver tissue of aged rats.

That’s good info. I’ll probably just try it on it’s own to begin with just so I can see what effect it’s having in isolation.

The thing is not to expect instant results with anything you try.

Regarding the l-tryptophan, that apparently increases kynurenic acid the the brain, which is thought to be already high in sz.
The tryptophan metabolite, kynurenic acid (KYNA), is a preferential antagonist of the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor at endogenous brain concentrations. Recent studies have suggested that increase of brain KYNA levels is involved in psychiatric...

I took L Tryptophan based on this. I already had some left over because I tried using it as an appetite suppressant a couple of months ago.

I think amino acids are under-studied in sz, and it’s a shame because they’re fairly safe (as compared to many other supplements and meds) cheap, and widely available.
I read that section on tryptophan and the results seemed mixed, including that item at the bottom that a low tryptophan diet improved symptoms.
