I cannot get on a decent sleeping schedule

As some of you may know, I tried to reset my schedule by staying up all night and day the day before yesterday. Well, it didn’t work. I just ended up sleeping into the afternoon.

Now here I am, still awake from the night before contemplating doing it again. I can’t decide if I should take caffeine pills and try to stay up for the day or go to sleep and sleep late into the afternoon.

It takes me forever to get to sleep and once I do get to sleep I sleep forever. I just was not meant to function on a 24 hour a day cycle.

What should I do today? Try to stay up or go to sleep in a few hours when I will probably get tired?

I say sleep when you are tired, and stay awake when you aren’t.

How about try exercising during the day, to use up energy, rather than staying up late?

thats a thought. If I make myself more tired during the daytime I might be able to sleep at night. Thanks for the suggestion Abise.

What sleep cycle do you want? I sleep 10:00 pm-7:00 am. I take 10 mgs of melatonin at 9:40 pm. Some of the melatonin releases immediately and the rest releases over time.

I suggest staying up until the time you want to go to bed.

I want a similar sleep schedule to yours MentalFloss. The problem was I was always getting tired and taking a nap during the day then staying up half the night. I tried to correct this with caffeine pills to keep me up during the day but now it seems that I stay up longer than the time I should and then sleep extremely long once I get to sleep. I cannot seem to find a balance.

I had the same issue, but I had to change it because I’m frequently dealing with electricians and plumbers, etc. (I’m in real estate).

Fortunately, I am on disability at the moment. If I was working with this kind of schedule I would be screwed.

Yeah, the world is awake from 7:00 am-5:00 pm

I have similar difficulties. If I get to sleep at midnight, I’m all right. But if I miss the bus, another one doesn’t come along for hours.

I hate my current sleep cycle. I want to start getting up earlier. Lately I’ve been sleeping around 13 or 14 hours a night.

I feel you. That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing lately. Up real long and sleep long.

Can you try another reset but set an alarm to wake you up in the morning? I can’t really talk, I’ve been sleeping in until 11am recently.

I could try…but I set an alarm last time and it didn’t work. I could try again…maybe go to sleep a little bit earlier this time.

Was your sleep messed up on Invega or it started with Abilify?

I don’t think it was this bad with Invega.

It’s worth a shot. On days I have to get up before 11 I set multiple alarms (a single alarm doesn’t cut it).

I suppose I could set one on my alarm clock and one on my phone. I’ll try that.
