How true is it that a schizophrenia can not stop smoking

I’m in the process of wanting to quit, psychiatrists have given me two options wellbutrin or chantix champix _chantix is very expensive for me _ I was wondering if someone here has quit using any of these methods or if he is doing it now and as is it going? The most plausible option at the moment is wellbutrin for its price. Please no e-cig in my country is prohibited

Im taking wellbutrin. It is suppose to help with withdrawal symptoms. I wouldnt try chantix with all our mental stuff. Its linked to many suicides in my country. It has some heavyvduty brain altering chemicals from what i understand

When I was on Welbutrin quitting smoking was easy. I’d go off cigs for long periods.

I talked my doctor into letting me try Chantix… it gave me really unusual dreams which were enjoyable actually, but it didn’t help curb my smoking. Wellbutrin I haven’t tried yet.

Flushing Niacin, also known as Nicotinamide, can cut cigarette cravings. It hits the same neurotransmitters that Nicotine does, but without the addiction. Basically take as much as needed to feel a flush, and your craving goes away.

Here’s a post about someone who quit smoking like that.

Oh, no.
Try Alan Car book, i quit smoking for some time and then I start to think, oh it is easy, i can quit smoking in every time and started again.
The book is very strong, there is a theraphy too on the methods of Alan Car, wish you succes

Completely untrue. Anybody can quit, sz or not, it’s the same.

Below are some methods to help you quit:

  1. Go broke.
  2. Visit patients with pulmonary cancer who were previous smokers.
  3. Watch old cigarette ads from the '50s to '60s and find out the fates of those smoking actors like the Marlboro man or picture Johnny Carson dying with his cancer.
  4. Find an addictionologist who would provide the best meds and answers as it is an addiction in most cases. The meds like Champix are not always safe. An addictionologist understands the situation.

Determination and the most important thing is a strong desire to quit. There are many strategies to help, from nicotine patches/gum and various pharmaceutical meds to acupuncture and hypnosis. Exercise and relaxation helps. Until you stop, try smoking pure tobacco without additives. Good luck!

If it were me and I couldn’t use an ecig I’d try to quit with nicotine lozenges. I tried Wellbutrin to help me quit many years ago and it made me a bit suicidal.

I have sz and quit smoking in May 2011. I’m also addicted to alcohol. Between the smoking and alcohol I came down with Emphysema and possibly oral cancer. I’m waiting on the biopsy results for oral cancer. I quit smoking and alcohol cold turkey. I was having breathing problems in 2011. I would encourage everyone not to use tobacco and alcohol.

Honestly you can quit by yourself if you have the drive to do it.

I’m sure you have been through worse than cigarette withdraws. It’s not that bad… what gets people is they make themselves believe that the cigarette is actually doing more for them than it is.

Wellbutrin was not good for me. It made me very agitated.
I’m on day four quitting smoking now.
I’m going a bit stir crazy but I’m ok

Switching to vaping is the most painless IMO

Try smokeless tobacco. Preferably pasteurized stuff. And not fermented, like the typical American dipping tobacco. My grand father smoked until he was 40, then changed it for chewing tobacco, and he lived to be 94. I quit when I was 40, and use Swedish style snus tobacco. No nicotine cravings for me. There are however a debate whether its totally safe or not, but konsensus that its better than smoking. Since a lot of the poison comes with the burning of the tobacco. At least your lungs are safe.

If I have a smoke, there is no buzz effect at all. Is this normal?

If I stop smoking for a significant time, there is also no withdrawal symptoms either?

Also, if I drink tons of booze, it has very little effect.

It seems as though my brain says no go.

Is this a one of a kind condition is what I ask.
