Any tips besides ‘just do it’ to get motivated to start the day. I usually spend a good part of my day that way, stuck. I actually visited my neighbour friend this morning for coffee and it was ok. She has complex mental health struggles so she’s very accepting but she’s extra high functioning.
Anyway it drained me and I have motivation problems as it is and I get cognitive fatigue easy after too much and need my solitude.
So yay me for doing this today but I’m right back where I usually am. Stuck. I really needed a rest but I still can’t get going.
(Man I ramble when writing, I try not to but I do. Sorry)
How do you get started when you are stuck and frozen? And can’t do anything?
Hello @Artsygal.
I want to clarify, that often what is deemed by society as “low motivation” actually masks other problems,
for example energy problems.
Often when people say they have “no motivation” to do something, the truth is that they don’t have
the energy for that.
Do you mean maybe health problems? I have no interest anymore and don’t enjoy things. I have no personality left that I had but sometimes think it’s alzheimer’s and my pdoc won’t tell me. @Chess24
I visualize doing the thing I need motivation for in detail. Sometimes I take pen to paper and write out the steps in great detail so I know exactly what needs to be done. Sometimes I just fantasize that I’m doing a thing over and over again in great detail. I also will verbalize or proclaim that I’m going to do something to the people around me in an attempt to commit myself. I take my commitments very seriously. I also try to bribe myself, saying that I will give something to myself as a reward if I accomplish such and such. When all else fails I try to set a time that I will do it later and let myself off the hook in exchange for making the commitment to do it by the deadline I set. For example I didn’t take a shower today but I will take one tomorrow before noon. These things usually work for me and I end up getting most things done within a reasonable timeframe.
@Chess24 don’t know what that is. Will look it up. People say I look at the positive bc I am grateful and content. But my issues on site like this though. Thanks for replying
Hey @Leaf you sound determined and resilient like me even when not motivated. I used to use some of those strategies and used to give / negotiate myself a reward etc and you reminded me to do that again. It helped. Ty
You’re welcome, never give up. Even when all seems lost you can still try. That’s what I like best about myself - even when I’m failing I’m still trying.
Oh goodness @Leaf thanks for the kind words. Me too. That’s what people say about me. Even when I feel weak, people tell me how hard I work. I won’t give up. That’s one reason I am on this forum.
When I wake up, I think to myself “There is no REASON to hate myself.” Because I’d have early morning energy but no motivation. It was all about unreasonable self hate.
Sorry to hear that @chordy . Hard pill to swallow, not having motivation. I don’t hate myself. I like me. I do get discouraged though. I just don’t like the changes or limits.
