I have been practicing yoga for the past 10 years. I enjoy it very much. I started practicing because of degenerative arthritis in my lower back that causes me extreme pain. When I first started yoga 10 years ago, I was in so much pain I could not bend over the sink to brush my teeth or wash my face. I could not tie my shoes. I could not roll over in bed without severe pain. I could not pick anything up off of the floor, It was extremely dangerous for me to take a shower, and I would fall out of the shower stall all of the time, narrowly escaping severely hurting myself. It was very hard to get up and down from a chair. It was even painful to get in and out of the car. In short I was in extremely bad shape. And I was only 45 years old and 183 pounds at 5’ 8.5" tall. That is not that bad to be in that bad of a shape. I felt worse than a 90 year old. I went to my Dr. and demanded narcotics. He told me that narcotics would not touch the pain, and would do no good. He told me to start walking instead. Now, I live in the midwest and I did not feel like enduring the elements so I remembered reading somewhere that yoga was good for spinal health. And that’s what started me on my journey with the art and science of yoga.
Ever since I have been doing yoga, my flexibility has improved to the level of a 20 year old woman, (I am 55 years old now), and as long as I practice yoga, at least 4 hours or more a week, I keep my pain level to an absolute minimum, and my flexibility to an absolute maximum.
I plan on practicing yoga for the remainder of my life. I am a devout Roman Catholic, and I do not mix the religions of yoga with my Catholicism. I keep them very separate. I practice yoga as a form of physical exercise and that is it. That is where I leave it. I don’t get involved in any yoga philosophy. That is evil. That is not God.
I don’t practice but I try to stay active, I backpack/hike, swim and am working on just being able to do calisthenics. I use to do hot yoga many years ago. Really improved my mood.
I’m afraid to do hot yoga. I have an aversion to sweating.
The kind of yoga I do can be considered slow-hatha.
Its a really good thing undoubtedly. Pilate’s has always been an interest. Combination of dance stretches and yoga. I’m just focusing on cardio right now though. Hatha yoga is great to destress by.
I just remembered I did bykram yoga I think that’s how you spell it. Hatha is more controlled though where bykram was more steady and fast. Also what’s nice about Hatha is you posture and poses really are important
i was doing Aikido for a while and i loved it
i had to stop due to ill health but i really want to go back
just waiting for my health to get better
my favourite thing in Aikido is playing with the Bokken and Jo
but i love the moves, you have to control your partner even if he has a Bokken or wooden dagger (forgot the name) and it has to be fluid
Antipsychotics can cause overheating so be careful out there.
I practiced shaolin martial arts for years. It eases the mind doing the forms and is a good physical workout. I’m a black belt but I forgot most of my forms. I have since found other forms to practice so I’m back in the game. The hardest part for me was doing the stretches after not doing them for so long. As far as the religious part of it, I was never taught. My master was a born again christian.
Yoga? Well,i do have yoga pants.
Hapkido
Long Distance Runner
I do stretch and the spread eagle stretch keeps nagging leg and back pain away. Because my back has been injured, I still suffer from jolts of pain now and then and am prone to injuring past injuries.
I did TaeKwonDo for two to three years, 3 times a week for an hour and a half. I was becoming pretty skilled and the sessions reflected that (it was hard work). It was fun. There was this Jamaican rastafari who was the most flexible guy I’ve ever seen and obviously he could pull off amazingly high kicks. I gave up when put on meds, maybe someday I will go back but everything is to be started from scratch now…
I used to go to Kung Fu classes as a teen - I liked it pretty much, but did not stick with it
The classic karate. The teach was impressed at first and then I slowly quit trying then stopped going. Learned how to throw/block a punch. Also escape grabs.

it calms my ’ sith ’ mind…" don’t kill anyone dark sith, don’t kill anyone dark sith ! "
take care
