Was it hard for you what was the process ? How long did it take ?

I think so. I had all the papers and stuff and was very sick. It took about 6 months for me. I got lucky. I imagine it’s harder now. I really appreciate these people.

I think it varies from country to country. Canada really depends on psychiatrist reports.

It took about three months but got back pay once it was finalized

Might I ask what you of papers do they need ?

I was reluctant at first to go on disability, saying that I was living with parents and my needs were met, but my case manager pretty much pushed me to do it, and I finally caved in and decided “Hey, why not? I deserve the extra cash for being so miserable.”

It didn’t take long. Maybe 1 month?

First try, but I got a recommendation from my psychiatrist, a brain scan and a diagnosis.

I live in the US and I got it in about a year, with my first application. it’s more common that it takes more tries but I was very bad off.

As for papers, I wasn’t involved in that part of the process as I was seen as too incompetent, so I’m afraid I can’t answer you on that. :frowning:

Was the process hard ?

Had to get a form filled by my Pdoc, my case manager, and my GP. All told I went to two places (Pdoc and case manager were in the same place.) Also had to fill the form myself.

It took some effort, but the returns were way worth it.

I got it in less than 3 months with a lawyer’s help.

It’s getting really hard over in in Australia. Government aren’t wanting to spend money on anyone so disability is getting harder for the younger ones. I’ve been on disability since 2004 and I’m older which usually means they are looking at the younger ones.

It’s disgraceful that they are like this. My biggest stressor was work and it is good to have some alternative.

I was not approved first when I only said I have Aspergers because that’s what my mum told me to say because she refuses to accept my schizophrenia diagnosis despite over seven psychiatrist have diagnosed me and despite me telling her about voices and delusions etc.

She said there’s too much stigma to it.
I think she finds it embarrassing.
She still refuses to accept.

I was approved when I wrote that I have schizophrenia and a psychiatrist confirmed and I said over seven psychiatrist have diagnosed me.

I did so against my mothers will.

I still have not told her as she would get mad at me saying now I have a label on me etc

It was really upsetting to apply and stressful and the beauracracy is difficult for me.

Thankfully somehow I managed.

It helps me so much.

The paperwork can be really confusing.

If you do t have someone to help you with the forms I would hire a lawyer to handle that part.

My mom helped with the paperwork and even she had trouble with it, and she is a RN and used to medical forms.

I had 3 hospitalizations in less than a year and I was semi delusional when the psychiatrist for social security interviewed me , got it first time…

Angie is about to get disability and had to appeal twice before she got it…she hasn’t been awarded disability yet…I am just guessing but it’s a good guess.

After all the hassle i read about getting PIP (UK) - mine was surpisingly easy. Tho ive been claiming sickness since 18 (im 45). It helped i had a social worker that did all the phone calls and clinic letters for evidence.

Never attended a dreaded DWP medical either in over 25 years.

I think they’ve written me off - which suits me fine.

Im actually hoping a Labour Govt comes in soon ,as they promised to scrap Universal Credit - cos with my lack of budgeting skills, if they transfer me on that - i would be truly screwed.

I got it in 3 months no lawyer. You don’t need any paperwork. Just tell them where you were treated and what hospitals you have been in. They get the records.

Maybe your claim went through right away.

Both of my claims they needed extra paperwork filled out.
