Antipsychotics block dopamine and nicotine boosts dopamine. I feel deprived of dopamine because of the meds and It feels virtually impossible to give up nicotine because of it
Its sad that noone cares to reply to this topic alot of us are addicted to nicotine and its unhealthy
I am taking supplements that boost dopamine. I completed my first cold turkey day yesterday and today will be my second. I will throw out all my nicotine products tomorrow as it’s trash night. Except for lozenges and patches and chewing gum. It’s the inhalation of smoke that I just can’t let myself do anymore.
Smoking also affects acetylcholine in the brain. I also take supplements that affect choline in the brain.
@Dude1 good luck with your quit. Im afraid to take supplements. I was thinking of taking wellbutrin but Im afraid to do that too. So i just feel stuck now
i guess u just gotta do it if u think its right for u. for me right now i get more benefit from nicotine than negative things so im not even trying. but if u really wanna quit i would suggest patches. thats how i did it before. i started with the 21mg patch and it says wear it for like 2 weeks. i decided i would wear it as long as i need to. i wore it til i completely quit thinking of cigarettes, then i went to the 14mg patch and did the same, then the 7mg patch. it took longer than recommended but it actually was the only time i was able to quit.
@rogueone has used a smoking medication that he claims made it possible for him to stop smoking. I believe it is chantix.
I asked my primary care doctor for it and she knew I had psychiatric issues and said she didn’t feel comfortable prescribing it to me. She said it causes psychiatric issues. If my psychiatrist would prescribe it to me and monitor me I would take it.
Yeah it doesn’t work for everyone but champix/chantix was so easy for me.
I was a slave to nicotine and used to smoke butts. It wasn’t very pleasant but didn’t even finish the course on chantix.
Talk to your doctor. It’s something the doctors got sick of prescribing over here because everyone would go out on the sauce and get back on it but I can attest if it does work it works well and is pretty bloody harmless.
Disclaimer. I did feel a little sick to the stomach early so there was that…
@Rainstorm I haven’t posted in a while, but I’ve been taking chantix this past month. Only been able to cut back to half a pack aday though. I might switch to snus or gum in a couple weeks if I’m still smoking. haven’t had any side effects so far at least.
