Question for cigarette smokers

How many cigarettes do you smoke a day. I smoke a little over a pack a day. When I get paid again I’m going to my pcp and getting chantix again, I’m excited!!!

I asked my doc for Chantix but he said he needed something from my shrink saying that it would be safe for me to go on it. Lame.

How much I smoke depends on how many cigarettes I have available. I can go through 3 packs a day easy if I don’t try to moderate myself.

I have a new pcp I hope she doesn’t do that to me. I didn’t think about that, thanks.

Try zyban less side effects then and I never had a problem on it

Did zyban work for you? If it did how long did it take to work?

It did work but I also didn’t take it right, still a smoker but thinking with the prices of cig’s I might try it again and quit this time. I thought about Champax, but I know people without schizophrenia and the bad side effects they had didn’t want to risk it.

Yes that’s one of the reasons I’m trying to quit. I’m spending like 70 dollars on cigarettes every 2 weeks, that’s ridiculous. I think about it all the time, I could actually do so much more with that money. I also don’t want to die of cancer ( my uncle just got diagnosed with throat cancer from smoking).

Sounds like you have the will power too and that’s the most important thing when it comes to quitting if you as me. Good luck.

I tried chantix before and it worked but then I got psychotic and started back. I’m thinking,I’m on medicine now so hopefully I’ll stay a non smoker if it works this time.

Have any of you tried those vapor pipes, the flavored vapor pipes that can be refilled and recharged that is supposed to sort of give you feeling of smoke without the harmful chemicals. Well at least for now they say it is not harmful, 5 yrs from now they will be saying the vapor pipes are worse for you than cigarettes.
I am so dumb, ìwas was in the hospital for three weeks and could not smoke at aĺl, and actually it was not too bad without it. They gave me the nicotine patch at first, and since I know we I had no other option, I barely even thought about it. The first thing I did when I got home was lightup, but the funny thing is that it did not even taste good to me until the second pack. I should have stopped then, but where I live, almost everyone young person smokes.

I quit a 60 a day habit because there really wasn’t any other way forward from there, i wasn’t able to moderate myself…

this is 8 years ago - i used a high dose of nicotine replacement, lozenges and patches…
patches are great for making you feel like you are on a level with it the whole time - getting you used to no more rise and fall nightmare…

I just needed lozenges to top up for a while i was on nicotine patches and lozenges i had one in my mouth all day and night…

It’s vey expensive but not as much as smoking and i really really reccomend and also

don’t give up nicorette patches just because of one cigarette, that gives you an either or situation which is better left until you have the strength have had enough.

if you fail when you have just one or just 5 even a day you’ll be fine and you 'll get there

I struggled to give up for about 8 years, to get to the stage i was annoyed enough with the habit… another 8 years later i hope i stay away…

good luck, you can do it… get started with quitting, i quit in a mental hospital (well on my last month there, when i was on the way back to mental health)

I dip, it’s a bad habit and a bad coping mechanism. I’m slowly acknowledging the negative effects and am improving on my daily usage. We just end up making the wicked rich and our bodies poor. It’s obviously a negative habit for health, balance, and psyche. It does create a break from the present, but what good is planning for the present if we won’t be around to enjoy it? I’m aware and improving, it is preventable and I don’t plan on keeping the habit.

Both Chantix and Zyban started out as anti-depressants originally - until it was discovered that their main function was reducing the desire to smoke in trial subjects. Check with your doctor before you proceed, they can interact with other drugs.

Zyban is just Wellbutrin (an antidepressant) with another name. :sunny:

Yeah I stopped too when I was in the hospital and when I got out asked the cab driver for a cigarette. Not the smartest thing, lol.

I have an e-cig. The liquid for those is super cheap. I used to smoke half a pack a day. I bought three bottles of e-liquid and have barely made a dent in them since halloween. I think it will work out to $20 a month in e-liquid. Super cheap. Some of the stores you can try the e-cig in the store to see if you like it. The have plastic covers for the mouth piece. I have the evod 2. I really love it. It has lots of smoke.

I was thinking about the vapor pipes but it seems like you’re still smoking. I want to give up the habit completely not substitute it for something else.

I was a heavy smoker who stopped on July 3 this year. I’m sure I have saved greater than $1,000 already! Not to mention, I’m no longer putting burn holes in everything!

Congratulations to you @Jayster

I can’t ever seem to follow a specific pattern or amount to what I smoke per day. Friday, I smoked a full pack, but yesterday and today, I haven’t smoked at all.

Its rough to not smoke sometimes, since I know that I will again… (eventually) … and when I do, I will get hit with the nicotine buzz that makes me light headed and slightly nauseous.

Before all of this, I was using a vape (aka e-cig) for a few months, but my husband’s grandmother (who lives with us) has dementia and keeps taking my vape since she’s confused by what it is - I think she believes it may be used for drugs as opposed to nicotine only. We’ve explained it to her many times, but due to said dementia, she forgets. Last time I had seen it, I placed it on its charger and when I went to go disconnect it, it was already gone. This is the second one that’s she’s taken and my mother-in-law is convinced that rather than hiding it, she’s been throwing them away. These vapes are $80.00+ dollars a piece (not including fluid, atomizers, tanks, and the like needed for it) and this is the second one that’s come up missing.

The vape was helping me to get off of actual smoking (and saved me so much money per month), but since they’ve both disappeared, I’ve occasionally gone back to smoking. :frowning:
