i tried to seed and bread bait them… not to capture just to watch…but all I get is black birds and robins everyonce ina while I get a cardinal… if I meat bait them I will have all the cats for miles around and probably the skunk that lives across the road…
in other nature news…the dam cicadas are out this year en force talk about a headache… I also caught a baby snapping turtle the other day… their cute and have cool designs on the bottom of their shell… when they get bigger they def lose the cute factor though…
lol I don’t think birds recognize my or any humes authority… I just put out some more food and a nice watering spot for em… apparently I need some crow decoys… if a crow sees another crow in a yard they will go check it out… I would give them shiny things and food…
I dunno maybe you’re just not in a big crow area. At my old house massive flocks of crows would sit on the trees and houses outside of our house. I’d walk out in the morning to school bus, it would be almost pitch black outside with crows everywhere. That would be creepy even if I hadn’t been psychotic!! Lol
so are cats… it would have an adverse effect on feeding the birds if I had a yard full of cats… lol… I will try the decoy and change up the type of food I put out… apparently they enjoy nuts too…
I was once chased through the black forest by a giant black swarming mass at night… I made it to a street light and turns out it was a flock of small birds that ran along the ground and hopped over each other to create the illusion of one massive creature… I never been so happy to see birds before …I had never been so afraid before either…
holy shite… birds love peanut butter… in between the last post and this one I put out rice…its fine I looked it up…no wild birds are exploding from some grains… smooth and chunky peanut butter and some tuna… my 6 new crow buddies seem to prefer the chunky peanut butter and the tuna I remembered I watched crows eating fish last week they love it… and the black birds are going to town on the smooth… so if you want a bunch of birds peanut butter is the ticket…
haha im so happy… theres probably 40 birds in my back yard munching down on some peanutbutter…ahh I jinxed it… 3 robins just ran all of my black birds off…and now im sad… still got the crows though… I will take some pics when I can pet them…
im noticing 2 types of black birds… one has a black bill one has a whiteish bill… the black billed one has a blue collar and the white billed ones are shiny green backed… they all have their mouths open like the peanut butter is sticking to their mouths lol…
also for future reference I need to space the food out a little… they are fighting over it… and I don’t think they can see the rice on the white plate I put out… their eating it off the ground but not from the plate…
I will take some pictures of the cows at my gfs grandmas place… they are kinda skiddish but if I have my little one on my shoulders it peaks their curiosity and we can pet them… lol
I heard bread can clog up their digestive tract so I wouldn’t recommend it. Try foods that would be in their natural diet like seeds, nuts, bugs or in crows case meat!
I toss out stuff for all the birds to eat every single day in our front yard, but only after I feed the cats in the backyard first.
I get all kinds of birds, including my favorite- the crows.
Some of the stuff I toss out:
Cut up fruit.
breads such as, wheat bread, bagels, tortillas.
cake (plain ol’ pound cake they love).
cookies
donuts (rare because they’d all be eaten by us)
nuts, salt washed off then dried.
crackers of any kind.
cereals of all kinds.
potato chips, tortilla chips.
oatmeal- regular, not instant or flavored.
and one of their favorites, cat food.
Pretty sure I’m missing a lot, but that’s all I can think of.
apparently it is as easy as feeding them consistently for about a week… and bam insta buddies… and if they really like you they will bring you gifts… like bones and shiny stuff…
