I got denied twice because they said I am able to work. I worked while having sz at several jobs, I quit my last job in 2020. Do you think 3yrs without a job is enough to get disability? They refused me cause I worked very recently back when I applied
If you can get on the Long term disability in canada, once its set up my pdoc said you can start it and stop it when your well enough to work without losing it.
I think work history trying and failing is a benefit when a judge reviews a case in the US.
To even get full disability benefits we have to earn work credits.
But also if they see your work history as being proof that you are capable they might deny. It really depends on records.
I just know my doc made sure I kept trying to work before recommending me disability.
2 pdocs refused to file me for disability. They said I am able to work if I force myself and that disability will make me lazy and less likely to go back to work. Do employers see if I was on disability? I was told disability is bad for the cv and less likely to get a job
A social worker helped me apply for it during a hospitalization. I barely remember it, just that it was approved quickly.
I wish we have ssdi here, people on disability all get the same money regardless of their work history
I don’t have a social worker or a pdoc, I need to apply and wait a year to get one
I didn’t know I had a social worker at the time.
I couldn’t work for awhile after I got sick. I couldn’t work for almost three years after I got diagnosed. I got SSI first and then applied for SSDI. I don’t remember much about the process but I’ve been working, albeit mostly part time, for 40 years and still qualify.
I wish we had that here, you get the same disability amount regardless of work history
That is exactly how I got on disability also. Except she was dealing with my mother as I was a little to out of it.
I have all my papers filled out at home from 2021. I told my pdoc i lost them cuz i was too embarrassed to tell her i was too unmotivated to go to the government office to hand them in.
My mom helped me get disability and SSI. She somehow got me Medicaid and Medicare. I was too psychotic to do it for myself.
I got on years ago in 2005 or so when it was a bit easier but they were forcing people into an alternative.
Once on I went back to work and put it on hold and failed working due to paranoia so I got back on no problems. Not sure it’s an easy process out here anymore so it’s worked well. Moved to volunteering for years but it’s a really good thing if your functionally compromised from sz but you still function. Don’t regret it in the slightest and live as large as I can anyways.
I was quite suicidal at the time so she was insistent to fill it out.
After my first psychosis I went on sick leave and moved back to Belgium. After my second psychosis (and 2nd hospitalization), I was back on sick leave. After a year my pdoc wrote a report and I was approved for disability. Then it got extended and extended every couple of years. Each time I have to take a report from my pdoc and talk to a social security doctor.
That’s how it works here.
Too get my payments - i just sent 2 Psychiatrists Letters, my clinic letter from the last review, and a letter from the support worker at the time.
Never had a face to face assessment - just got awarded for another 7 years this time.
I reckon im safe as houses.
And on a slightly, devious note - thats why i always remember my Primary Carers Birthday - and send a couple of tins of choccys to the MH Team at christmas. Cos then your more likely to get a decent letter from them for evidence.
Couple of them - have told me, that they have a soft spot for me anyway
I got my SSDI in 4 months from applying with my pdoc’s help. I had multiple failed work attempts.
I was on regular community services income support and my pdoc sent in a form they asked me to get filled out. They increased my monthly income and ceased any attempts to get me into a work program and switched me over to disability. I’m not certain if this letter has to be filled out annually and my doc is doing it on his own or I am good until things change.
It has nothing to do with how long you haven’t had a job, just your diagnosis. I didn’t know anything about it. Someone signed me up after I received a work disability for schizophrenia.
