How can I regain cognitive functioning? I have schizoeffective

What can I do? I sleep well, I go on a treadmill for 60 minutes a day and I do 4 sodoku puzzles daily. They are barely helping me. I’m also in school which is helping 0%. Is it normal for these things not to help with regaining cognitive functioning? I need any and all tips on how to get my intelligence back. Every intellectual skill I had is watered down and I have no symptoms except cognitive dysfunction. Also, will raising my antipsychotic help my cognitive skills come back? My dr says no but what is your experience? Thanks

Sarcosine seems to help me a little bit.

What is Sarcosine and what does it do? Thank you for replying, I am new to the forum. I am glad to know it is active.

reducing my ap has led to a dramatic return of this, the other thing is antidepressants like trintellix which have been shown to boost cognition. try trintellix or luvox which is good for learning and neuroplasticity

As far as I have read the only things that have some scientific evidence to support their use for cognitive impairment are sarcosine, sodium benzoate, possibly fish oil/DHA/EPA and cognitive training. There are specific online programs that are licensed to psychiatrist offices, but mine doesn’t offer it and it sounds like yours doesn’t either. Another thing to try would be to see if there’s an early intervention in psychosis program near you because they might have access to a cognitive training program.

Nothing really. I tried supplements but I ended up in the hospital. Exercise, water, taking your medications, eating healthy, and keeping your brain active. When I first got SZA, I really thought I was getting dementia. I still have memory loss. I’m waiting for better medications to come out like iti-007 and Min-101.

Probably adderall but we can’t take it as it’s probably the worst thing for us schizophrenics. They thought I had add as a kid. Never been on that type of medication. I instead used energy drinks.

Every diagnosis is different for each individual. I am sza and have dealt with cognitive difficulties since becoming ill. In many ways I stopped growing emotionally which may stunt cognitive development. Exercising, going to school, and keeping your mind active are all positive ways to keep your wits about you. You’re probably not giving yourself enough credit, remember it’s not an all or nothing experience… to say school is helping 0% is probably a black and white judgement you have of things right now. There is a gray area or middle ground I have achieved despite the dz. Hope this helps.

Oh, exercise combined with cognitive training is supposed to supercharge the results.
