What are some ways to improve my cognitive abilities back to normal? I don’t feel like I’ve lost a lot of intelligence, but then again, I’m not necessarily tested on my abilities anymore. Are there any exceptional methods that stand out? Are there combinations of medications and/or supplements that better if combined?
-Sincerely
A constantly curious schizophrenic…
New medication for cognitive symptoms are coming up… i have a lot of hope in it…
Sorry i cant help u…!!!
Try sarcosine and l theanine…!!! It helps…!!!
- Don’t just wait around for better meds and supplements.
- Do some kind of cognitive remediation or cognitive exercise. It works. You could start reading, sign up for some classes, or get a new hobby which involves pushing your cognitive abilities in some way. A lot of what people with sz experience as cognitive decline is really cognitive disuse.
I wish I could, but I’m currently finically strapped. I see you on this forum a lot. I admire how active you are in the online community for us schizophrenics. Thanks for your replies!
Oh I read a lot, I write my own raps for fun, and I push myself to use my brain more when socializing to keep up with other people. I’ve been living basically in a flip house the whole duration of my illness, or at least since I’ve been diagnosed so I socialize a lot. Is it weird that after I’ve recovered from my symptoms my social abilities have actually improved from pre-psychosis?
No, not weird. Same here.
Since you already read, socialize and have a hobby, I think the next logical step would be to do something more demanding. Like studying or working on something cognitively demanding (e.g. math problems, very difficult puzzles, chess). You could also start exercising. Meditating might help, too.
Hi april thanks for ur appreciation… i try to sociolize in this forum… due to sz i cant work and be on relation…
Take care friend…!!!
I recently added exercising to my routine, slowly easing myself into it. I’ve been recommended meditating too to organize my thoughts and what not but never got around to it. I USE to though! And as for something more demanding I’m debating on getting a job, but think I also have ADHD too. I really don’t want to start a job til I get to the bottom of it
I’m also debating about going to college but I just don’t know if I have it in me…
You’re really doing lots of good things!
You never know if you have it in you until you try. But you could start out with reading some textbooks on a subject you’re interested in? That way you can see if you have it in you while also preparing yourself for actually doing it.
I did this. I had a lot of textbooks from the last time I studied, and bought a new one, too.
Yes @April296 We tend to lose some of our cognitive abilities because of Sz, in the long run. They say newer drugs like Cariprazine help to restore cognitive abilities. There is a supplement called Sarcosine which is good for cognitive abilities. It is available in US and other countries, but not in India. You can try it . It’s priced at $15 for bottle. Ask your doctor!
Hi @Andhrawala why dont u order it from ebay…!!
@anon93437440 had ordered it from u.s…!!!
Take care friend…!!!
Me three!!! 15
I like this computer game called Tetris Attack (look it up on the internet I’m not allowed to post links here) and it’s free variant called Panel Attack (again I’m not allowed to post links)
Medications I know of are - lithium.
A four week treatment can grow grey matter. Which is what our brains are diminishing themselves of.
Any hobby, fine motor skill, building model cars etc. Reading. Math and science research. All grow grey matter. It takes time to build but it does help.
I think lithium dont grow grey matter… i think physcial and mental excerxsize helps to grow grey matter…!!!
I assure you it does!
@StripedShirtBoy are u on lithium…??? Just asking…!!!
Yes I used to be. Not any more as it was no longer doing for me what I needed it too. I think it helped me cognitively but not really well with moods after a while. Latuda FTW! Lol
