Hearing voices when there is background noise

Is it normal that I get auditory hallucinations mostly when there is some form of noise? When I walk outside and theres cars and such I hear voices but when it’s silent I rarely get any hallucinations. I got very recently diagnosed with sz. Sorry if breaks rules or wrong section of the forums

I get this too, I’d sometime hear mumbling voices when there’s a fan running. Or train stopping over the sound of the sea. But if there’s silence I don’t hear external voices only ones inside my head.

Thats how my sza started out and drs assumed it was “quasi” psychosis, but over the years it progressed to hearing voices at any time.

I get it with running water. I can hear my daughters screaming for me when they’re not, also whispers during the day. On my bad days I use Bose noise cancelling ear buds which work great. Blocks the whole world out. I never answer the phone or the doorbell. Not my problem. Or not one I want to deal with.

I used to get voices during other noises as well - often large crowds of people talking, but sometimes right to me, but for some reason it’s stopped about a month ago!! I am a happy camper!

This happened to me once not long after I started medication. It was when the white noise machine was on. It hasn’t happened again. It was freaky. It was the only time I heard a voice which appeared to be in the room with me.

@firemonkey has the actual name for this phenomenon, I can’t remember it.

Edit: it’s something like functional hallucination

Thanks @firemonkey

Thanks for comments.
I was wondering if my hallucinations are fake since they need that background noise to take place but I’m glad it has a name.

i get this too. there’s a big fan outside my parents house where i smoke and you can hear things in it. the air conditioner. once when i was just staying here there was the sound of evil children chanting and i visualized a world with mayan temples and evil children standing around then i felt clear as day a claw grab my back. physical type stuff. the other night i was in a dream and hands were grabbing me. i thought i was being liften onto a gurney and taken to the hospital.

sorry most of this doesn’t have anything to do with the original post!

There is an air conditioner and it makes noise outside the hospital where I’m at and the noise makes me hear whispers and whistling

I hear sharp/distinct voices in the shower…to rid of the voices, I talk to the “act of shower + the shower head + water + shower itself” and humbly implore that all be peaceful. Sometimes I apologize for anything that I may have done disrespectful to the “whole of taking a shower”…infusing vitality into the act of shower and treating it as a “total” and not as a “means”, rather, “as an end in itself”…this giving “life” to “taking a shower” seems to get rid of the voices.

@cognition , you really need to stop with the God and prayer stuff. In the last 5 minutes I have had one flag on you for such and noticed another comment I had to flag myself. Religion is against the rules here.

got it. TY. I apologize

I’m not currently having voices, but last night “the music” came back hard with no background noise. Bummer.
