Hearing voices when there is background noise

I have a voice inside my head that starts commenting at random, but usually when I am watching a TV show or movie. I sometimes hear voices or music outside of my head, randomly.

But if there are already other sounds, like running water, a ceiling fan, or the hum of the fridge, my brain often creates voices from those sounds. So, I do kind of relate to you, with hearing things based off of other sounds in the environment.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

when i was hearing voices id hear them whether there was background noise or not, white noise particularly made it louder. now on meds i dont hear voices but i sometimes misinterpret background noise and real voices of people etc. as being directed towards me, i think it is due to conditioning from having 24/7 voices in the past. but considering that no med can undo it it doesnt bother me much i just keep some white noise going like music or a fan to cancel out real unexpected noise. its odd before meds white noise was terrifying and now that im stable it is a crutch
