Haven'y slept for more than 20 minutes in four days

Every time I fall asleep and enter REM sleep I have horrible Night Terrors. I never remember what they were about, but I wake up short of breath and screaming. Was hoping it would go away on its own. I have been on medication for this since last spring, but for some reason it is not helping anymore and I am at the maximum dosage for my weight. My biggest concern is that this is the first sign of my first psychosis. I have found lots of info on what a psychosis is, but not a lot on the symptoms leading up to an event. I have talked to my shrink but she seems to think its some kind sleep apnea or something and referred me to a specialist. I’ve slept maybe four hours in the last four days, and the sleep deprivation is getting to me. Certain symptoms of my SZ are getting really bad. I have started conversations with family members who have come over to visit, only to have them call me mid conversation from their house. When I look up the hallucination of them smiles at me and walks through the walls. Not only that I answered my phone about an hour ago and my dead grandfather was on the other end. Any suggestions to help me sleep dreamlessly?

You need to get medical help asap. I.e. Go to the hospital. You could end up dead if this continues.

I did on day two, they told me to talk to my shrink, who told me to talk to the sleep specialist who has me scheduled for tomorrow

Oh, that’s not good. Hoping you’ll talk to your doctor about this. Lack of sleep can make a person psychotic over the long run. :frowning:

Pixel.

I’ve gone longer than this without sleep, but the last time I ended up passing out while walking my dog and almost froze to death (It was January last year) I got lucky thn because my dog kept me warm for the sixteen hours my body was simply shut down. Thankfully because of my diagnosis when I failed to return home at the designated time, my roommate was able to file me as a missing person and the Wardens went out and found me. That is why I went to the ER on day two, because I don’t want repeat event.

I’ve gone for long periods without sleep too - months at a time. I would lay in bed with my eyes shut, but I wouldn’t lose consciousness. One time I walked around outside for a few months, laying down on bare concrete to rest up and not getting sleep. I guess it didn’t hurt me. I’ve found that my lack of sleep is usually due to adrenaline. If I can find a way to prick that adrenaline bubble I can get some sleep. One thing I have been doing lately is taking an extra Seroquel if I am too keyed up to sleep. That can knock me out. Try to find ways to soothe yourself off of that adrenaline. You don’t have to play with your med’s if you don’t want to. Maybe doing some heavy reading will help you go to sleep. As for the disturbing dreams, all I can say is try to calm down and get the adrenaline out of your system.

I actually suffer a rare genetic condition, my body doesn’t make adrenaline, well not very much anyway. I only have one gland for it and its under developed. My biological father had no adrenal glands to speak of.

I hope you get some rest and that you are able to get some sleep eventually. I’ll pray for you.

My records at 6 days with absolutely no sleep. I had terrible night terrors and server ptsd almost everytime i closed my eyes. The hole time i was totally manic and jittery and hyper like no matter how much i did i had to do more and do it as fast as i could and i barely ate because i thought it was a waste of time. Then i passed out on a walk. Luckily i passed out in front of a freinds house and they took me in and let me sleep on their couch. I still dont sleep often. My regular sleep schedule is about 3hrs every other day.

I was symptomatic for ten years before I was diagnosed, (no friends and disconnected and dysfunctional family members to even notice) and I remember having such bad dreams, at times, that I would feel relieved upon awaking , but I had such great dreams, also, that I would wake up to in the conscious realm with serious anxiety attacks. So, I think that It should balance itself out so that you are not disturbed by either realm. I still experience a difference from time to time depending on my actions during the day (I think). It could be natures way of trying to help us. That is what I think anyway.

Taking vitamin ā€œBā€ 6 is said to be a dream enhancer if you desire to remember your dreams better. Seroquell had a positive effect on my dream experience but had some strange side effects on my mind before falling asleep. Now on 2mg - 2xday Risperdone and doing well. Dreams still mixed but relatively pleasant overall.

Ended up in the ER. My body shut down and I had a night Terror, my room mate came to find out why I was screaming thinking I was awake, found me passed out with a cut to my forehead in the kitchen. He tried to wake me up but couldn’t. I was released and given a prescription for sleep aid. Said my Night Terror was the result of not sleeping for almost five days. Told me to lay off the caffeine. Said he’d seen it before with teens who drink too much Monster. Problem is I don’t drink energy drinks because they make my symptoms worse.

In total I was passed out for about four hours. I still have to see the sleep specialist in the morning, but I am getting fed up with the doctors seeming to know more about my life than I do. When I told the doc I don’t drink energy drinks he smiled and said ā€˜Sure sure, what ever you say.’ Night Terrors are keeping me awake, but the idot doc says the Night Terrors are because I’m not sleeping. If that’s the case i’m going to die, because that means it is an endless cycle.

Saw the sleep specialist yesterday…he had me rushed to the CT/MRI machine thing and sedated to see my sleeping brain activity. Had a night terror while in the machine…I have some weird disorder that was triggered by my transition from Geodon to Latuda…it should go away once my body readjusts to having new meds. On the bright side I contributed to medical science, as people having night terrors while their brain is being monitored is very rare

They showed me the recording of the scan, my brain was lit up in a few places at first but then the night terror started and the display got really pretty with tons of blue yellow and red lights. The doc said that most people with their brains lit up like this have really high IQs. Too bad my brain didn’t get that memo right?
