The Haldol shot helps me. I had horrible side effects on risperidone

Both worked well for me but the risperidone worked better. I could take it as my only AP but haloperidol I need another AP with it, but it does help too.

Risperdal was better for me
It probably is all about dosage finetuning.
I didn’t have the patience with risperidone, but with haloperidol I did.
I had horribe side effects with haldol. Risperidone is easier on me. It works well too.

I’m currently on risperidone
Haldol worked great for me as an emergency med in the hospital.
I’ve been on Haldol numerous times.
I prefer Haldol but my doctor won’t prescribe it for me because of the high TD risks

I liked risperidone better, except for the sexual side effect.

Akathisia really bad. The nurse gave me haldol one evening. That night I was up the entire night pacing in a circle around my room. The doctor discontinued the med the next day, thankfully.
Hi @Newlyborn, The first antipsychotic I was Prescribed was Rispiradal. It really knocked me out I think I may have been on 4 mgs. I spent a lot of time in bed but I might have just been adjusting to taking aps. I went from a size 12/14 to a size 20 on this and I don’t think I was eating any more. It took my voices and paranoia away. It gave me a very contented feeling. The took down my doseage and I was fine and a bit more active. I had leaking breasts a rash on my face and no libido.
On Haldol. I have held my weight steady but can’t take off weight. I have no voices but some paranoia but I am on a low dose of 3 mg. I have developed diabetes while on it and high blood pressure but I think that would have happened if I had stayed on any ap. Haldol is cheap here in Australia. Rispirdal, I think is more expensive.
Just a word on Invega which I have been on as well. It makes you feel good, takes away voices, paranoia but after a while of being on it I developed a huge tummy like I was pregnant and it hasn’t gone down since.
Hope this helps…but aps affect everyone differently.

I tried the Risperidone shots…it made the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet itch. I’ve been on haldol many times over the years, sometimes oral, sometimes injected. It zonks me out so now I only use it prn.
