Guitar lesson #?

I’m not sure what number guitar lesson this was today, but I’m moving up to String A or 5th string.

New practice songs/song snippets are:

1.A practice song that sounds like the “spy hunter” song, if anyone remembers that game.

  1. A segment of “Joshua fought the battle of Jericho”, whatever that is…

  2. and the longer song or song segment “Greensleeves”. Not sure if its the full song or a snippet. It’s the longest practice song I’ve had in book so far.

I didn’t sleep much last night, so not really motivated to practice much more today but will get going heavily tomorrow.

May take me awhile to get this down as I have a harder time reaching higher strings and I may need to develop a technique (proper wrist bending, etc) in addition to learning the standard notation and such.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks @Montezuma . Will be thrilled when get up to 6 strings, but I think its going to take me a few weeks to get 4 and 5 strings down well enough to move on. It’s an awkward stretch currently for finger 3 on both. Need to adjust form probably, which is a pain but I’m prepared to work at it.

Yeah, using all 6 strings and playing chords is tricky when starting out.

Remember to use your wrist to make the chord shapes, and press firmly on the fret board.

Typically I play traditional chords like A minor and G major add 9 when I’m playing my indie/folk kinda stuff. But when I play stuff like punk I typically only play the last 3 strings and move bar chords around. Hope this makes sense.

thanks. Yeah, I’m mostly talking about limiting my strings as far as playing the melody goes. I use all strings when playing chords, but have a difficult time with some like C and G7. Been making progress on C but it’s not consistent that I can do it without muting string under finger 3.

Maybe this adjustment in form will help my chord playing as well as melody. IDK.

I think there’s a fighting chance that it will.

As you get further down your journey into learning guitar you’ll learn that a lot of things really tie into each other.

And if it’s any consolation I still suck at playing a G7. It’s just such awkward fingering for me. :joy:

Yeah, I dunno how I’m going to get that full stretch. There are finger exercises you can do for trying to improve stretch, but I honestly havnt been doing them. Kind of boring :stuck_out_tongue: .

Well my good sir, there’s always the land of alternate fingering.

I mean, it’s not cheating, and you’re still playing the same chord. Haha!

I may use my toes .

LOL!

That would definitely be pretty “experimental!”

just use finger 1 and 2 for frets one and 2 and bring up the big toe for fret 3. lol. Why not? It’s worth a shot!

Well, since I took a nap that I shouldnt have taken, I decided to practice a bit today. Got the “spy hunter” like practice “song” down pretty quickly. Having a bit of a rough time with “Greensleeves” so far as it jumps around quite a bit on 4 out of the 5 strings I’m currently learning on. Good practice though. The only strings it doesnt use is little E and Big E.

It jumps around on B G D and A. Hard to keep track of where your fingers are.
